Kania's POV

Oh gods. This can't be happening. He's taking her away, he's going to hurt her. Oh Thor, no, please no. He's taking her away and I can't do anything to stop it. I can't see her. I'm going to lose her. Please, I can't lose her too. Please no, I can't... I can't- a firm hand finds a place on my shoulder. It's only when the pain of them squeezing do I notice my vision is blurry from the tears running down my face. Someone takes my shaking hands in theirs and I can tell they're saying something that's supposed to be comforting. Everything is so cold and quiet now. I'm not shaking, but it feels like I'm made of ice. I'm breathing but I feel like I'm suffocating. I can't feel or hear anything, it's as if time has stopped.

"Kania, Kania look at me." The snapping of fingers in front of my face awakens my senses. I look up and meet Valka's eyes. "Breathe with me okay? It's alright."

"No, it's not! Nothing about this is ever going to alright!" I hiss through clenched teeth. "You didn't see it Valka! I was right there! She was in front of me and I just- I wasn't fast enough!"

"Kania, listen to me. None of this is your fault. No one could have predicted this." She goes on.

"Bit if I had just reacted faster-" I begin, but am cut off.

"You would have been shot too and the outcome would have been worse." Valka reasons. "We can't change what happened, but we can fix it now."

I blink away some stray tears as I look up to her, confused. She turns to Hiccup so I look over.

"Suit up gang! We're going to get them back." Hiccup proclaims as he walks towards us, hand in hand with Astrid. I didn't even notice how many people had arrived.

"Now THAT'S father material! At last, faithful pupil, you are ready." Tuffnut rattles on about who knows what. Hiccup just nods and silently takes it.

"Uhm... how are we gonna get our dragons back? Without... dragons?" Fishlegs asks the question on everyone's minds.

"Trust me." Hiccup says with such authority that I have no choice but to trust him. Something tells me that what he's been working on is finally done.

"Sooo jump off the cliff? In these?" Ruffnut spreads her limbs wide, showing off the faux wings attached to her armour.

"It'll be fine Ruff, it's like sailing a boat. Just keep the wings in the wind." I tell her, putting on my helmet and strapping my bow on my back.

"Uhhh you know I have no idea how to do that, right?" Ruffnut drops her arms. I chuckle.

"You'll be fine." I pat her shoulder, then turn my head towards Grimmel's outrageously large fleet. Determination overtakes my fear.

"Is this seriously the best you've got?" Snotlout hobbles over.

"No. You guys are the best I've got." Hiccup responds, a warmth in his tone I haven't heard since the party before Berk was burned down. Ruffnut strokes her hair and lets out a quiet 'awww'.
