"Alright Acid, shoutout your channel."
Acid was the next to go. She shouted out her channel one last time before she disappeared from the screen and the cameras shifted again, rearranging to fill the space that she left. You rocked back and forth in your chair, flipping your phone in your hand. You'd made it to the third round - not too bad.
"Alright!" Austin said. "Let's move on to another question, and this one's a classic - where are you taking Schlatt on a date?"
On screen, Schlatt rubbed his hands together, mocking anticipation. You tipped your head back to rest your head against the back of your chair - where would you take this asshole on a date, if you had to? Nowhere, if you were being honest. You simply would refuse to date him.
"Anna, why don't you go first." Austin prompted.
"Okay." Anna said, seemingly deep in thought. "I think, if we were going to go on a date, I would go for a classic dinner and movie combo. Something simple that we could actually talk and get to know each other while doing."
"So you don't think I'm worth something exciting?" Schlatt asked.
"That's not what I-"
"That's fine." Schlatt said, cutting her off. "I understand - I think I'm ugly too."
Your phone pinged with a text from Maddy, and your eyes skimmed over the screen, reading the text.
at least hes self aware lmao
You bit back a snicker.
"Tessa, what about you?" Austin switched over.
On screen, Tessa leaned back in her seat. "Schlatt, I noticed you wear a Yankees cap a lot." She said, British accent rolling over the word Yankee oddly. "If I was going to take you on a date, I would fly to America and take you to a Yankees game."
Schlatt perked up slightly. "You'd fly here?"
Tessa nodded. "Yeah, I've always wanted to visit the states anyway, and baseball is kind of like the America thing right?"
Schlatt tilted his head, seemingly impressed.
The conversation drifted on, going through the contestants one by one. You checked out slightly, mind turning to ponder your own answer to the question. This would be a good opportunity to earn some points with the viewers - hopefully when the time came, they would think twice about voting you out. Something funny then, and maybe something a little mean. Schlatt seemed like the kind of person his fans enjoyed to watch getting insulted, and if you could start a back-and-forth with him, your chances of staying in the game would be higher.
What was something funny though?
You looked back at Schlatt on the camera, an idea swirling around in your head and coming to fruition. You smiled to yourself, watching as Maddy finished her turn.
"Yeah, I think I would take you to a museum." She said.
Schlatt rolled his eyes and just slurped at his cereal. "Alright, art bitch."
"Y/N, what about you?" Austin queued you in.
You shifted in your seat to face the webcam more head on. "If I was going to take you on a date, I would take you to a barber shop and get those ugly-ass mutton chops shaved off."
You could hear Maddy's laugh on screen and from the other room.
On screen, Schlatt spluttered. "You don't like the chops?"
You shrugged apologetically. "I simply would not be seen in public with someone who has mutton chops in the 21st century. We would go to the barber, get those removed, and then we could go do some cute romantic shit after that."
You could see Schlatt's lips twitch up into a slight smile.
"Alright then." Austing said, laughter on the edge of his voice. "Ivy, how about you?"
"Um, I think I would take you stargazing?" Ivy said, starting on her date plan.
You checked back out of the conversation now that it wasn't your turn and your phone pinged - another text from Maddy.
someones gonna clip that lmao that was great
You huffed out a laugh and tapped back a response.
dude i could hear u laughing thru the wall
Austin's voice brought you back to the conversation on screen - Minx was shouting about Schlatt skipping over her again. You weren't surprised; that was their bit after all. He would make it up to her by choosing her in the end for sure - there was no way chat was going to vote her out, and you knew that he had chosen her before.
"I think it's time to choose the next bottom three." Austin said. "Schlatt, if you would..."
The room was quiet for a moment as Schlatt typed his message.
"Okay!" Austin said. "Tessa, you are safe."
"Anna, you are safe."
"Botez, you are safe."
"Minx... you are in the bottom three." Minx banged a fist on the her desk.
"Maddy, you are safe."
"Kandy, you are in the bottom three."
You felt a rush of nerves to your fingertips - it hadn't taken this long for Austin to say you were safe before. And it was only you and Ivy left. Perhaps this was the beginning of the end - you had insulted him after all. He probably would put you in the bottom three-
"Y/N you are safe, Ivy... you are in the bottom three."
You exhaled, strangely relieved even though you weren't set on winning. You felt bad for Ivy, being put in the bottom three two times in a row, but you were fairly confident that her viewers in the chat wouldn't let her leave just yet. You had been fairly sure that Schlatt was going to put you in the bottom, but for some reason, he hadn't.
You looked at him on screen, watching him stretch up and fold his arms behind his head, swaying back and forth in his chair, watching the chaos unfold as each of the contestants in the bottom three made their cases to the chat. Like this, he distantly reminded you of a king on a throne, a tamed beast under his feet as he stared you down, waiting for you to confess all your sins.
A shiver ran up your spine, and you looked away.
