Schlatt all but collapsed as soon as you got back to the apartment. As soon as you had shown him the guest bed, he had flopped face-first into the pillows and was snoring within minutes. You couldn't blame him though - you had been as equally tired when you had been flying back here.

It did give you time to go pick up pizzas while he was asleep though, so when he woke up there was hot and ready food.

As soon as you had set the pizza boxes down, both Maddy and Schlatt came out of their rooms, following the smell into the kitchen, where you were trying to find the paper plates.

"Sweet." Maddy said, cracking open one of the boxes.

"Do you remember where the paper plates are?" You asked, climbing up onto the counter to reach one of the higher cabinets.

"What, I'm not worth breaking out the fine China?" Schlatt joked, watching you root through the cabinet and return empty handed.

"I think..." Maddy knelt down, opening the bottom drawer of the cabinet next to the sink, fishing out a half stack of paper plates. "Here you go." She tossed them up on the counter before standing back up.

You pulled three from the stack, passing one to Maddy and one to Schlatt, before turning to the boxes and cracking the one Maddy hadn't touched open. "I didn't know what you liked on your pizza, so I just played it safe and got one plain and one pepperoni." You said.

Schlatt moved directly towards pepperoni, taking two slices and plopping them down on his plate. "I'll take it." He said, picking up one of the slices and folding it in half before taking a hardy bite. "I'm fucking starving anyway."

You picked a slice for yourself before sliding onto the barstool next to Schlatt while Maddy perched on the edge of the counter next to the boxes. For a moment, it was silent as you all ate, but then Schlatt let out a loud burp and you were all laughing.

"So." Maddy said, taking another slice as she finished her first. "What are the plans for the next few days?"

"Well, I know we're probably going to be doing some filming, so we'll probably be around the apartment." You said. "Other than that... I don't know. We'll see where we end up."

Maddy hummed around her bite. "Cool beans." She said. "I'm going over to Jake's for the weekend this week, so you guys will have the place to yourself for a couple days." There was a knowing sort of smile on her face as she said it, and you could feel your face heat up at the implication.

"Who's Jake?" Schlatt asked.

Maddy shrugged. "Just a friend of mine."

"So you're not fucking him?"

Maddy broke out into laughter, and as she told Schlatt about Jake, you got up, getting yourself another slice of pizza. It was nice of Maddy to clear out for the weekend, but you didn't know what she thought was going to happen - the most you had done was give Schlatt a hug, once when you were leaving, and more recently when you hadn't seen him in two months. You freed another slice of pizza from the circle and dropped it on your plate. Just because she wasn't around didn't mean any miracles were going to take place.

When you sat back down, they were still talking about Jake.

"So when did you start dating?" Schlatt asked around a bite of pizza.

"Five months ago?" Maddy asked, leaning back on her hands. "I can't really remember-"

She was interrupted when Schlatt raised a finger in the air, stopping her mid sentence. "So, what you're saying is, when you were on my dating show, you had a boyfriend."

"I mean... I guess." Maddy said. "I wasn't going to win-"

Schlatt barked out a laugh. "Yeah, that's what Y/N said too, and look where we ended up."

You pressed a hand to your face. "Look, I already apologized like thirty times for that, and I still feel bad about it-"

Schlatt elbowed you gently with a grin. "I'm just teasing, I know you felt bad about it."

"Plus," Maddy said. "If you hadn't hosted him, you would have never flow out and made up and then he wouldn't be here now, so when you think about it, this is probably better."

"That kind of a backwards way to look at it, but sure, I guess." You said. "I would have liked it better if I hadn't been worried about accidentally offending a guy who's known for pulling out a Glock-"

Schlatt laughed at that and you couldn't help but giggle as well. Maddy simply rolled her eyes, sliding off the edge of the counter to dump her empty paper plate in the trash and wipe off her hands of pizza grease. "I'm going back to editing." She said.

"Cool." You smiled as she walked back to her room. Before the door closed, Maddy winked and flashed a thumbs up.

You just turned back to your pizza. She had too high hopes for this visit - there was a ninety percent chance that nothing exciting was going to happen, and that you were just going to hang out with Schlatt and uselessly pine and whine when he left again. You would rather play it safe and not say anything rather than risk the friendship you had built-

"You know what?"

You turned your gaze to Schlatt, who was looking at his pizza intensely.

"What?" You asked.

"For not New York pizza, this is pretty good." He said, nodding to himself.

You couldn't help but smile - even when he hadn't know what you were thinking he managed to ease your mind by making you grin. It was an uncanny talent, but you liked him all the better for it, among the many other things that constantly rolled around your mind - the dimples, the laugh, the smile, the constant warmth. It was good to have him, even if you just had him as a friend.
