A small beeping sound echoed across the confined white walls, machines surrounded around the all white hospital bed. The body of a damaged lover lay there as she had been for 3 days.

Except this time was different, this time she was slipping back into the real world. Slowly regaining her senses as her fingers moved along with her toes.

Her eyes slowly peeled open, attempting to adjust to the light. And as she went to take a deep breath she felt she couldn't breathe. Placing a hand over the oxygen mask covering her face, she removed it forcefully.

Voice hoarse as she let out dry coughs, attempting to catch her breath. Hearing the struggling woman, a nurse rushed into the room immediately.

"Ms. Diamonté, welcome back. Here put this back on, your oxygen levels are still sort of low." she said attempting to put it back over Dia's face

Dia shook her head, "I- water I need water-" she coughed

The nurse nodded her head and picked up the cup of water by Dia's bedside. As Dia drunk, her memory recalled what had happened 3 days prior to now.

She was amazed she was still alive and abruptly pulled back from the cup of water.

"Are you okay Ms. Harper?" the nurse asked

Dia nodded, "Thank you." she said

"No problem, I'm going to call the doctor for a quick check-up and we'll let your family know you're awake." she said with a kind smile and walked out

Diamonté let out a shaky breath and examined her body. It was then she noticed both her legs covered in casts, she bit her lip to suppress the sob that was coming up her throat.

She blinked furiously to hold back the tears threatening to fall. Thinking back to what happened, made her heart twist in her chest. Her stomach churned and she shifted her legs uncomfortably.

Not long after, a doctor walked inside and following the doctor was her closest friend since she moved to Compton. She bit her nails but stopped once she saw Diamonté sitting up.

"Dia!" Naomi exclaimed running over to embrace the girl

Diamonté breathed a sigh of relief, "Hey Nae." she said as the small woman's arms wrapped around her

Naomi kissed her cheek, "I was so worried about you, I'm sorry I wasn't there. I didn't know things would get this bad, oh my God do you even remember-"

"Nae! Calm down." Dia laughed interrupting her friend's rambling

Naomi sighed, "I'm sorry... I just been worried sick, I stayed here every night, you've been knocked out for 3 days." she explained

Dia's eyes widened, "Really?"

"Yes." the doctor spoke up and stepped forward, "After the fall from the balcony it seemed like the wind was knocked out of you. You were still breathing but barely, luckily you got here in time." she explained

"H-how did I get here?" Dia asked

"Calvin's neighbors heard the gunshots and called the police." she explained
