Indeed, the amusement park trip was a hit with all the children, parents, and hospital staff.
It is two days from that epic day, the children, even the teenagers are still talking about it.
"That was the most fun I had in a long time." A child told his cousin over the phone.
"Did you have fun on that special trip?" A mom asked her son while he was getting his daily dose of chemo.
"Yes! It was an awesome adventure."
"Adventure? These children really enjoyed it." Nurse Mild just listened to their conversations as he assists them with the treatment.
Nurse Manow also listens to the children talk as she goes around, giving them their medication.
"Nurse Manow, can you please take these files to Dr. Sakamoto?" Mild handed Manow the files.
Mild looked at Manow with some hint of irritation.
"She is daydreaming again. What I am going to do with her, seriously."
"Nurse Manow, wake up, you are still at work!" Manow jumped out of her dream and looked at Mild angrily.
"Do you have to be so loud?" [Nurse Mild tossed the files to Manow]
"Take them to Dr. Sakamoto, he is waiting for them." Mild turned around but then stop.
"You don't think you have enough with Dr. Sullivan? Now you want Mr. Suppasit as well?"
Manow opened her mouth in response to what nurse Mild just said.
"How do you know I was thinking of him?" Manow puppy eyes let Mild knows he was right.
"Well, since we worked in secret with him to help the trip to the amusement park. You mentioned his name every other second, so I guess your absent-minded moment was caused by him."
"You can't be too careful; you never know what could happen. Plus, Dr. Samantha is kind of sneaky, so I need to play it cool and see my options."
Mild shakes his head, "You are really out of your mind. Go back to work. I need to help Dr. Sullivan with his rounds today." Mild look at the time and realized that he has only a few minutes before Gulf gets there.
"I am happy this way, plus it helps me manage the stress of working here." Manow placed the folders on the counter and lean on it.
Mild's eyes were searching for a clue of what makes Manow change her mood so fast.
Getting closer to her. "Manow, are you alright?"
Manow holds her head with her left hand. Manow sighs, "I am just happy-sad if that makes sense."
"Hm, happy-sad? What do you mean?"
"Well, I was so happy that the children were able to have fun and enjoy themselves like children. The thing is, I am sad that now, they are back to their reality of staying in this cold place." Manow looks around the surrounding areas.
Nurse Mild placed a hand on Manow's shoulder, for just an instance. then remove it as fast as he put it.
"Manow, we try our best to make this place as comfortable and homelike as possible. This may sound heartbreaking, but you need to remember, we cannot save everybody. We can make the best we can to help them, but we are all humans."
