The Trial

You would think a trial for a cult leader would be more exciting, but I found myself nearly bored to tears while listening to the opening arguments. Even Alastor's smile looked a little strained. The press, however, was having an absolute field day.

"I think we'll wind up being the focus of the story," I whispered to Alastor as yet another picture was taken of us rather than the indignant looking demon watching his lawyer give his defense statement.

"Hopefully it is in something higher status than that trashy tabloid," Alastor joked in reply. Honestly, I would be fine if we stayed in the lower rated news. As it was, there was no way I would ever get to go undercover again. I really didn't want to push that to where I was stuck on desk duty permanently.

When it was finally over for the day, Alastor and I slipped out the side door to avoid the journalists. His town car was waiting for us in the alley well away from prying eyes. As soon as we settled into the back seat, Alastor asked, "How does dinner at my place sound tonight? I make a mean jambalaya."

I chuckled and gave him a quick kiss, "That sounds perfect."
