"well look who finally decided to call" skylar grinned softly as she picks up the facetime call from jackson
"sorry, little cameron. ever since the virus, it's been pretty hectic at the hospital" he said
skylar furrowed her brows, she noticed that he wasn't smiling like he always is whenever the two talk "what's wrong?" she asked
"we need to talk" he said skylar could have sworn he gave her the exact same look when mark had passed away
"jackson, what's wrong?" she repeated, her heartbeat fasten
jackson sighs "i wanted to tell you the moment that it happened, but richard and bailey didn't want to worry you, dani, or gen. they thought that she would get better" he said as he avoided looking into the camera
"jackson, who!" skylar said, her voice raising slightly
"skylar, meredith's been in the hospital for a while now. she was diagnosed with covid" jackson explained as he watched skylar's face go pale "she had woken up and it seemed like she was getting better, but a patient was coding and no one was around. so she took it upon herself to get up and start compressions, along with intubating the patient"
skylar stayed quiet, through the camera jackson noticed the tears brimming in her eyes. he sighed "meredith collapsed after she saved the patient from coding" he dreaded to tell her any of this. amelia offered to tell her, but deep down jackson knew he was the one who had to tell her "sky, teddy said her lungs are at a breaking point. and richard agreed to put meredith on a ventilator"
skylar had quickly wiped away the tears that rolled down her cheeks. she nodded slowly "i'm on my way"
