𝙳𝙴𝙲𝙴𝙼𝙱𝙴𝚁 𝟷𝟿, 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟶
IT WAS SIX A.M WHEN SKYLAR AND charlie were at the los angeles international airport. the two were seated in the lobby, skylar bouncing her right leg, feeling anxious. charlie noticed and placed his hand on her thigh, giving her a small sense of comfort
an hour later, charlie was walking her to her gate, the two hand in hand. skylar didn't want to leave him, she wanted more than anything for him to join her. as the two stopped just outside her gate, she stepped in front of him and wrapped her hands around his neck, laying her head on his shoulder "do you remember when we were in the studio and you were going to record unsaid emily? i had asked you why you didn't invite the rest of the boys? and you said that they would've distracted you?" skylar asked as charlie nodded "and i asked but aren't i distracting you by being here?"
charlie smiled softly before repeating his exact words "you're my person...you keep me sane"
skylar smiled sadly before hugging him tighter "i don't know if i can do this without you. because it's only around you that i feel safe...that i feel sane" she admitted, tears threatening to spill her eyes "a-and if something happens to meredith i—i- d-don't know what i—
charlie cut her off my pulling away and placing his hands on her cheeks "hey, hey, hey. nothing is going to happen. from what i've seen and from the stories you and your mom have told me, meredith is fighter, she is one of the strongest women who has been through so much. yet she's always pushed through. she'll get through this. just like i know you will" charlie said confidently "i'll cancel my trip and i'll book the next flight to seattle, just say the word"
skylar's heart fluttered, everyday this man in front of her surprise her more and more. she could never understand just how she got so lucky to have him in her life, but one thing is for sure, she was forever grateful "no, no, no. you have a commitment with the sharks and you have millions of hikes to go on" she shook her head with a soft smile "go live your best life"
charlie let out a small chuckle, before looking back at the angel in front of him "you're the best part of my life"

at eight forty-five skylar landed in seattle. after collecting her suitcase, she met up with jackson. the father figure hugged her tightly, before leaving the airport and driving straight to the airport. skylar's anxiety was through the roof, once she stepped into the hospital that held so many painful memories, from the shooting that happened to her father's death
after getting skylar an id and personal protective equipment, jackson silently lead his niece towards the icu room. her heart sped up at the familiar route they were taking. seconds later they were standing in front of meredith's icu room, which just happened to be the same room where mark cameron died
a voice called out to them "avery she's not suppose to be he—
jackson cut off miranda bailey "i'm sorry okay. wait, you know what, i'm not sorry. we have been keeping this from skylar way too long. she deserved to know from day one, hell even meredith wanted to contact skylar, daniella, and genevieve but you and richard convinced her not too. you two should be ashamed of each other" jackson ranted as he pointed to miranda then to richard webber who came around the corner "you of all people should know that meredith cares about skylar like a daughter, hell she's her godmother for gods sake"
he shook his head one last time before turning to meredith's room, as he opened the icu glass door, skylar's heart sank. her eyes roamed from the tube in meredith's mouth to the ventilator. tears began to brim in her eyes, she walked in as jackson closed the door to give her privacy. he turned back around to glare at miranda and richard who held regretful looks
skylar grabbed the nearest chair and pushed it closer to meredith's hospital bed. as she took a seat, she grabbed meredith's hand, giving it a small squeeze. she felt a knot building up in her throat, flashbacks of her father's passing going through her mind "mer? i don't know if you could hear me..."
𝙼𝙴𝚁𝙴𝙳𝙸𝚃𝙷'𝚂 𝙳𝚁𝙴𝙰𝙼
meredith was sat on a long at the beach. she turned her head to see skylar sitting right next to her, looking straight ahead at the ocean. she felt another presence beside her, she turned her head to the other side to see mark cameron sitting on her right
a bright smile tugged on her lips "my little sky grew up to be such an amazing woman" mark smiled bright as he glanced over to meredith then to skylar
meredith smile "and an amazing artist. thanks to you" she said
a soft chuckle left mark's lips "have you heard her album? god it's amazing" he shook his head with a huge smile
meredith chuckled "she dedicated it to you" she replied
that bright smile stayed on mark's face "i know. i wish i could tell her how proud i am of her" he said excitedly
meredith and mark turned to skylar and heard every word she spoke "mer? i don't know if you could hear me... but please don't go. zola, bailey, and ellis need you... i need you" skylar said as tears rolled down her cheeks "mom couldn't make it because of the twins. she was so excited to come down to seattle after they gave her the all clear. but then we got this news. so you can't leave, you still have to meet the twins, you have to watch zola, bailey, and ellis grow up, you still need to meet dani's boyfriend, watch her get married or have kids... you need to be here for when i get married" she chuckles sadly as more tears rolled down her cheeks
"my girls are all grown up" mark said with a sad smile
"you need to be here for when i go on tour, or win a grammy. which probably won't happen but still" skylar mumbles
"when you wake up, smack her head for me" mark scoffs "she always tends to doubt herself" he adds
"i know you might be feeling so tired and exhausted. feeling like you want to give up and stay wherever you are. but we all still need you. we all care about you, and we believe that you'll get through this. so do me a favor and fight though this. you always taught me to keep fighting, so don't you dare give up on me" skylar said as she held back a sob
"she's the very best of you. you know that?" meredith asked mark as she turned to look at him
mark smiled with a nod "i know. just like your kids are the very best of you. skylar's right, you have to fight through this. she already lost me and derek, she can't lose you too"
