"Yes, why did you kiss him?" Caleb's voice seemed to echo, as I swallowed hard. I suddenly seemed to have lost my voice. "I mean, Nick does bring up a good question. You two looked awfully...chummy when I got there."

I licked my lips, which now felt very dry. "To be honest, I don't really know why I kissed him. It's like, for a second there, I was almost...in a trance or something. When he did....kiss me, I just kind of went with it."

This time it was Nick who spoke up. "He must have hypnotized you. Everyone knows Jace is extremely good at that." He chimed in.

I nodded my head. "Yeah, of course. That has to be it. I mean, why else would I ever let him kiss me?" I questioned, as I laughed uncomfortably. As I did so, both of their gazes landed on me.

Nick seemed like he was holding back a smirk, and Caleb a scowl. I shuffled awkwardly under their stares. "Yes, well I guess that must have been it. Because you wouldn't have let him if you were in your right mind. After all, he killed your parents. I highly doubt you'd be cozying up to him."

I opened my mouth up as if to speak, then quickly closed it. For some reason, Caleb sounded edgy and irritated. He almost seemed...jealous. Was he? I mean, it sure seems like it. He's practically giving me the 3rd degree. Why would he care so much if I did intentionally kiss Jace?

Silence formed between us, as we continued moving through the forest. It was making me feel extremely awkward. I was happy when Nick changed the subject. Thank god.

"So where exactly are we going?" Caleb's eyes flicked in Nick's direction, his annoyance evident. Nick chuckled, throwing his hands up. "Calm down man, I mean as much as I love all this sexual tension, it's got to go."

My cheeks immediately heated up, as my eyes widened. Nick just HAS to say things like that, especially when Caleb is holding me still. Awesome.

"I'm going to choose to ignore that. But to answer your question, we're with Amelia." Nick gave Caleb a skeptical look, and I furrowed my brows in confusion. Um...who exactly is Amelia?

"Are you sure that's really a good idea?" Nick asked, as he slowed his pace down slightly. "I mean come on, given your guys' history, I wouldn't think she'd be lining up to help you out."

History?

What does he mean by that? How do they know each other? And who is she exactly?

"Don't worry about it Nick, all we need is to stay there for the night, and then we'll move on. She'll help us out. And we're almost there anyways." I looked up, as we came to a clearing. A house loomed in the distance, which I assume belonged to this Amelia girl.

I cleared my throat. "Um....who exactly is Amelia?"

Caleb gazed down at me for a moment, then continued to stare forward. "She's an old acquaintance of mine. Don't worry Melinda, she'll help us out."

I decided not to press the matter any further, and I kept my head close to his chest as we continued walking. To be honest, it kind of felt...nice, Caleb holding me. I mean, I know I shouldn't even be thinking that, but it does.

I must have been lost in my thoughts, because I suddenly felt us stop walking, and I looked up and saw that we were standing on a front porch. "We're here." Caleb pointed out, as he slowly set me down.

I nodded my head. "Thanks. For carrying me and stuff." He simply smiled, as he knocked on the door.

It was a two story house, which had a very dark feel to it. Much like everything around here. I looked over at Nick, and he didn't seem to happy about having to stay here. I wonder why.
