THE RAIN CONTINUED through the night and into the next morning. But by sunhigh, the clouds began to clear. A sombre air hung over the clearing as the Clan waited for news of their leader.

Whiterose had gotten better, her cough was gone, and she was allowed to train Shinypaw again and go on patrols. She crept out of the den and padded over to Bluestar's den where Fireheart was talking to Frostfur.

They both looked concerned.

"What's wrong?" Whiterose asked, her voice shaky.

"Bluestar has Greencough," Frostfur mewed. "Stand watch, both of you, and make sure nobody comes inside."

The two littermates sat outside the den, shock flooding through Whiterose. Bluestar was in danger of losing another life.

A sharp yowl outside camp made them turn and look toward the gorse tunnel. Dustpaw exploded into the clearing and skidded to a halt beside them. "I've come from Tigerclaw," he panted. "I have a message for Bluestar."

"She's sick," Fireheart replied. "You can't go in."

Dustpaw flicked his tail impatiently. "Tigerclaw needs to see her at the Thunderpath. It's very urgent."

"What's wrong?" Whiterose asked.

Dustpaw glared at her. "Tigerclaw asked for Bluestar," he sneered. "Not for two kittypet's pretending to be warriors!"

Fireheart unsheathed his claws. "Bluestar cannot leave the camp," he growled.

Yellowfang emerged from the entrance of the den. "Fireheart and Whiterose are right," her rough meow sounded behind them.

Dustpaw looked at the medicine cat, shrinking beneath her orange gaze. "Tigerclaw has found some evidence of ShadowClan warriors in our territory," he meowed. "They've invaded our hunting grounds!"

Whiterose saw her brother curl his lip in fury.

"Fireheart," Yellowfang meowed. "Do you or your sister know if catnip is in Twolegplace?"

"Catnip?"

"I need it for Bluestar. It's a herb I haven't used in moons, but I think it will help her. It has soft leaves and an irresistible scent..."

Fireheart interrupted her. "Yes, I know where to find some!" He had never seen it in the woods, neither had Whiterose, but she recalled knowing where some was due to being forced to sleep outside all the time.

"Good," replied Yellowfang. "I need as much as you can carry; and fast."

"What about Tigerclaw?" demanded Dustpaw.

"Tigerclaw will have to deal with it on his own for the moment!" Yellowfang snapped.

Cinderpaw bounded over. "Deal with what himself?" Fireheart signalled his apprentice to be quiet with a flick of his tail.
