This poem was inspired by the book in the picture, I highly recommend! It's literally so sad
A man at the edge of the water
A cold winter morning on 1865
The air was cold; he was colder
Would he make it out alive? He felt so cold inside
The cold eating his chest
So cold for his heart had died
And his soul was not at restThe man stood at the edge
of still, deadly looking water
The man stood on the bridge
He was crying into the waterThen, in the heartless quiet
A faint, helpless cry nearby
He shivered from the climate
And peered down with dead eyesHe was not alone as he thought
There was a baby in blankets
He walked toward it distraught
Picking up the bundle of blanketsLooking into the baby's eyes
He lingered between a choice
Whether to die or stay alive
To forget or keep his voiceBut if he died, the baby would too
Abandoned by her parents on1865
If the baby died, he would feel blue
So he decided to stay aliveA lone sparrow in the distance
As alone as the baby girl in his arms
He decided to go on with persistence
To go on despite life's harmAnd suddenly he didn't mind
To earn enough for two
Food was what he couldn't find
But he'd give his to the baby as she grewThe man didn't yet understand
That he had saved himself
From falling with nowhere to land
Saved himself for another selfFor you save yourself when
You try to save another
For you find yourself when
You try to find another......
So basically if you didn't get this one, you save yourself when you try to survive for someone who needs you.
