i am a city girl

I am a city girl, the sound of traffic running in my blood

Pounding in my veins and become what I love

Watching sidewalk tiles fly past out the bus window

Tiles stretching into infinity and the future in rows and rows

From the balcony at night, I watch the city ablaze

Ablaze with reds and yellows filling my gaze

And I look into the sky and see another city

A city of starlight, like neon fireflies, so pretty

I am a city girl, and I know where to spot subway stands

Watching cracks in the concrete and gold metal strands

In the tiles under my feet as I walk in the streets

Stones with layers of history and footprints on the concrete

Passing historic statues next to modern skyscrapers

Passing sweet scented restaurants with aromatic vapor

I am a city girl, the sound of bird chirps in my blood

Layers of green canopies high high above

As I take a walk in a city of trees with no traffic jam

But perhaps various berry bushes to make fruit jam

Breathing in the smell of the Earth and leaves

Breathing in the sky and here I'm at peace
