Sampling of One (1) AU

So, I might have mentioned that I came up with a new superhero AU. Unfortunately, that superhero AU has begun to take over my brain, so... you guys should probably know why.

Quick side note: This AU is a little bit more bloody than some of my other AUs (which makes sense, as I literally made Logan a serial killer). While the inspiration for the whole thing is rooted in Marvel, it's definitely got a lot of Umbrella Academy in the tone, feel, and mild gore.

Let's dive in!

Logan and Janus are best friends and have literally known each other since they were two. They mostly saw each other outside of school back in elementary school, but then they went to the same middle school, discovered they had powers, and instantly became best buds for life.

Virgil met Logan and Janus in college, and their meeting went like this: Logan and Janus were chilling in one of their classes and listening to the professor lecture, Virgil climbed in through the window (the class was on the second story), looked around, said "Well, this isn't where I'm supposed to be, but what the hell" tumbled in, then parked right in between Logan and Janus, who instantly made the conscious decision to adopt him.

Logan, Virgil, and Janus share an apartment, and Janus is by far the best cook (mostly because he can use his powers to speed things up a little). Logan's fairly mediocre, and Virgil... well, you're lucky if you get slightly singed salmon for dinner.

The three of them are also avid listeners of Welcome to Night Vale (which I just recently started listening to and HOLY SHIT I adore it), and they all joke about how Logan and Janus are Carlos and Cecil "just without the romance." This will usually prompt Janus to amp up his acting skills and go on dreamy rants about how sexy Logan is, which prompts a smack with a rolled-up newspaper.

Janus getting smacked by rolled-up newspapers is a common occurrence in their apartment, mostly because he doesn't know how to keep his fucking mouth shut.

Virgil, Janus, and Logan have a cat named Khoshekh (named after the cat from Night Vale, because they're nerds), and she's very soft, very cute, very loving, and very demanding. Janus absolutely dotes on her, Logan considers her a welcome presence, and Virgil considers her to be an entitled bitch but he still loves her.

Logan works at an architecture firm where Patton's the receptionist, and that's actually how they met. Patton is SUPER chatty and is always trying to strike up a conversation with Logan (which didn't happen a lot at first because Logan, as I'm sure you'll recall, is a Flustered Mess).

Patton and Remus are roomies, which is a bit of a chaotic scene, but they've kind of rubbed off on each other---Patton's always ready to throw hands whenever necessary, and Remus is actually a little chiller than in canon.

Don't know if I actually mentioned this before, but Remus is homoromantic ace, very open about it in and out of costume, and is honestly neutral about the whole "sex" thing---if his partner wants to, and he really loves his partner, then yeah, what the hell, but he can survive without it. (Listen I love ace!Remus okay)

I mentioned that Janus and Roman dated in high school, right? Well... yeah. Basically, they were sort of friends, and Janus kind of joke-flirted with Roman a lot, but Roman started to actually develop feelings for him. They ended up kissing while playing a drunk game of Spin The Bottle at a party, and the next day, Roman asked Janus out. Janus didn't actually like Roman in that way, but the guy was so damn excited and so so sweet about it that he just... said yes. Flash forward a couple months, and they're arguing over every little thing, Roman's too star-struck about his first relationship to register the issues, and Janus is absolutely miserable. Thankfully, Logan gave Janus the push he needed to end it (which was really hard because how could you break Roman's heart he's like a human golden retriever puppy you monster), and while Roman was pretty much blindsided, it ended mutually... and then for the rest of high school, literally everyone was either Team Janus or Team Roman. There were ribbons. And badges. Logan verbally destroyed two cheerleaders for encouraging it.
