Do I have an explanation for this? Probably. Will I tell it to you? No.
You know what? To make it fun, tell me what your favorite AU I've come up with thus far is. And A Million Worlds Apart and any S.I.D.E. stories don't count, they're published.
Great, good choice. Let's dive in.
The Derry Girls AU
Premise
If you haven't seen this show, or have heard of it, you should probably check it out. It's about a bunch of teenage girls (and one guy) living in the town of Derry in 1990's Ireland, and while you would expect it to be fairly dark and political, it's actually pretty lighthearted, fucking hilarious and just focuses on the weird shenanigans the girls get into. Oh, and did I mention that one of them is a canonical lesbian and has a really sweet coming-out story? *clears throat* Anyways, this is another one of my genderbent AUs, so... yep.
What the characters are like
Reyna (aka... oh, screw it, you know it's Roman by now): Between the drama, the passion for justice, and just the... everything, Erin seemed like the perfect fit for our royal thespian. Reyna's a bit more friendly than Erin can be, but she's still got the incredibly awkward tone to her, so... yeah. Also, she's super gay, which we'll touch on again in a bit.
Rhea (aka Remus): If you've seen the show, I... I don't think I need to elaborate on why she's Orla. She likes to set things on fire. She does her book report on her cousin's diary. She is beyond our mortal understanding.
Janis (aka Janus): Honestly? I couldn't make our sassy snake anyone other than Michelle. They've got the same chaotic, fashionistic, rebellious, and flirtatious nature. I love it. (Also Janis is bisexual and therefore will thirst over literally any attractive person she sees, male or female)
Pepper (aka Patton): Claire seemed like the only person sweet enough to really fit for our ray of sunshine, and she's such an adorable, panicky icon. Also, her coming-out storyline is changed slightly—Reyna feels hurt that Pepper didn't come out to them sooner, since she's super out and Janis is super out, so the fact that Pepper didn't feel right telling them made her feel a little inadequate. Of course, it works out okay in the end.
Victoria (aka Virgil): She is James, but instead of being the "wee English fella" who got put in a girl's school to avoid getting bullied, she's just the new girl who "unfortunately, happens to be English." She and Janis have a pretty love-hate cousin relationship, and she's really just... confused. About literally everything. Except her sexuality—unlike James, she knows full well that she's not straight. She's even got a cool, spiky lesbian haircut.
Liesel (aka Logan): Seeing as there are five Derry Girls and six Sides, I hit a bit of a dilemma with the braincell—until I realized that Logan radiates the exact same energy that Sister Michael does. So, Logan—or Liesel—is the cynical, take-no-shit nun who really does not care about anything and just wants everything to be over.
Why I like it so much
The show's good.
The Locked Tomb AU
Premise
This will likely not make sense to you if you haven't read any of the books (the first one is called Gideon the Ninth if you need some place to start) but you know what? I don't exactly care right now. Just... just read the book, then come back. (Also, in this AU, some characters are genderbent, others are not.)
