You know what to expect from this. I'm not going to do a preamble this time. Let's just jump in.
The Umbrella Academy AU
The premise
True story---this one was actually one of the first I ever wrote for this fandom, but I ended up scrapping it, mostly because there were just too many plot threads in Season 2 for me to really work in (namely, figuring out who Ray and Sissy would be, since I was already racking my brain for possibilities for Dave and Patch). Still, though, it is a fun idea, and who knows, maybe Season 3 will prompt me to return to it. Anything's possible.
What the characters are like
Augustus: I made him Luther, mainly because I really couldn't make any of the others That Bitch---I like them too much to do that. And it does actually fit, since they've both got pretty bad anger issues, and they do both get better with time. Sort of. Don't have a lot to say for this one.
Virgil: They are Diego---and yes, I made them non-binary. I just thought it'd fit. They're still a vigilante, and they still have a lot of angst (which, to be honest, is probably the reason why I made Virgil Diego in the first place), and they are pretty fun to work with, all in all. And even though Virgil would probably get less put-together and more paranoid and conflicted if I were to continue onto Season 2, I'd still like writing them. I always do, honestly.
Roman: He's Allison! I've noticed that a lot of people make Janus Allison, and I can sort of see that, but in my mind, it's way more intriguing for Roman to be her, and her power does kind of align with Creativity. He's transgender, which is actually part of his arc---he and Augustus were best friends when they were younger, but Augustus didn't really stick by Roman when he came out, so their relationship is... pretty strained, but it does get better. (And yeah, I swapped that in for that other storyline. Not necessary.)
Remus: He's Klaus, and I'm not offering an explanation for this. It is cold, hard fact that Remus=Klaus. Admittedly, his canonical power set would line up better with Ben's, but you know what? I don't care. He's Best Boy.
Logan: I'm 99% sure you all saw this coming, but Logan is our favorite little sarcastic assassin, Number Five. Honestly, the only difference between the two is that, well, Logan actually has a name---plus, he likes boys. Besides, as evident by the superhero AU, I enjoy giving Logan mildly sociopathic tendencies... like committing murder on a regular basis. And Logan's already at the mental age of fifty-eight, so it works.
Janus: Yes, Janus is Ben, and yes, I felt very awful making the snake the dead one, but (SPOILERS) Ben comes back at the end of Season 2, so it's okay. I decided to make Janus genderfluid---partly because I wanted to draw some parallels to another iconic genderfluid character who is also dead---and I think it works pretty nicely for them. They've still got their sassiness, they've still got the sole functioning braincell, and it's still ingrained in them to look out for their idiot brother (if I can't make Dukeceit romantic, you better believe I'm making it one of the best platonic relationships out there). Janus rocks. 'Nuff said.
Patton: I absolutely had to make her (she's a trans girl in this btw) Vanya. I wanted to write a story where Patton was the focus, I wanted to make her a powerhouse, I wanted to do an arc of self-discovery---I could not make Patton anyone other than my favorite funky little CANONICAL lesbian. And I will always support letting Patton do a murder... or an apocolapse. Both? Yeah, both. Plus, Patton with a violin is just *chef's kiss* so good.
Remy: Initially, I made him Cha-Cha (and Joan was Hazel and Talyn was Agnes), but now, I think he'd make an amazing Lila. His wildness, his blunt sarcasm---really, everything about him fits for this girl. And power mimicry would work perfectly for Remy, since he's not a canonical Side, but everyone accepts him as one. He'd do great.
