Y'all know what to expect from this, I guess. Be thankful that I'm not going into the various Starkid AUs I've been coming up with, because there are LOTS.

Let's dive in.

The Encanto AU

Premise

What, you expected me to watch this movie and not do something Sanders-Sides related with it? Yeah, right... in all seriousness, though, this is legitimately one of the most beautiful animated movies I've ever seen, and I kinda went into it with low expectations because, y'know, it's Disney (to be fair though The Owl House and Amphibia are also Disney and I am legitimately considering throwing a party to celebrate them coming back on March 19th), but it's just... it's really good. So, yeah, this is Encanto, but the Sides are the Madrigals. Let's get into it a little more, shall we?

What the characters are like

Maeve (aka The Dragon Witch): She's Abuela Alma, if only because I didn't have anyone else. But seeing as I bounce back and forth between making her a good guy and a bad guy when I plan my AUs, it's nice for her to be someone who's less of a villain and more of a representation of the antagonistic force... I guess. I can't go deep into Abuela Alma in this little blurb, she's way too interesting for that.

Logan: This choice of casting may raise some eyebrows, but honestly, I really couldn't think of any other Side that would better fit our girl Mirabel. In canon, he's overlooked and ignored, just like she is, and his entire arc is just about wanting to be heard. Besides, it makes total sense that he wouldn't have any extraordinary powers—he's Logic, after all. He's not flashy or superspecial or magical, he just is. And when you take that into account and add the fact that his color is blue and that he wears glasses... yeah, he's Mirabel. It just fits. I dunno what else to tell ya.

Augustus: Since Wrath is usually associated with strength, I made him Luisa, and I do think it works. He's definitely a "ignore the nerves and keep on pushing" kind of guy, and I'm starting to get more into making Logan and Auggie siblings or at least related. I kinda dig it.

Roman: I absolutely had to make him Isabella. Like, he's the certified "pretty one" of the Sides, and he's a perfect prince with high standards who is absolutely going through a shitload of pressure to live up to those standards, and he's a freaking drama queen. And the feel that "What Else Can I Do?" has—pure bliss at having full creative control of what you're capable of doing—fits Roman just so well. It's beautiful.

Virgil: He's Dolores, and while you might question why, I think it's a pretty good fit. They both definitely have their own anxieties and insecurities, and I think a power like superhearing would fit for someone like Virgil. Plus, they both kind of give off a feel of "usually mistaken for a wallflower but is in fact a badass," and I really like that.

Janus: If you even need to ask why I made him Camillo, then not only do you need to rewatch Encanto, but you need to rewatch every single episode that Janus has appeared in in canon. It's like asking someone why they put cheese on their grilled cheese sandwich. I CANNOT MAKE JANUS ANYONE OTHER THAN THE FUNKY SHAPESHIFTER KID WHO IS LITERALLY ALWAYS WEARING YELLOW AND FUCKING WITH HIS FAMILY.

Patton: He's Antonio. Again, I don't think I need to elaborate.

Remy: It took some thought, but I decided that he'd be Pepa, if only because he's got a lot of emotions and he's not afraid to share 'em. Also, Remy with Pepa's power would probably be pretty crazy, and I think it's canon that Pepa is a bit of a Coffee Addict.
