Yeah, I'm not apologizing for this. I will, however, ask you to comment, even though these things have probably gotten old for you by now.

Let us begin.

The Nightmare Before Christmas AU

Premise

Now, I've seen some concepts floating around the fandom for this, and since I recently watched it and was reminded of how fantastic it is, I thought I might put my own spin on it. It features my own little theories about the nature of Halloween Town, as well as a bit more conflict and character exploration, and I'm liking how it's shaping up in my head.

What the characters are like

Virgil: Now, I know that many AUs make him Sally, but I like the idea of Virgil being the Pumpkin King, so I made him Jack—it's a bit more in character, too, since he can be a little dramatic. Virgil's sick of putting in all this effort for the same result every year, and he desperately wants to feel something other than stress, exhaustion, and longing. He does have good intentions, and he does love his town... even though he's been dropping the gracious act and has become a lot more cynical and depressed in recent years. A few citizens have noticed his change, but only one of them is bold enough and close enough to comment on it.

Janus: He is the mayor of Halloween Town, a scarecrow-like being who thrives on chaos and prides himself on doing a wonderful job running the town when Virgil is in one of his moods. He's also the king's closest friend, and while he does enjoy bothering Virgil, he's genuinely worried about him and doesn't want him to lose his enthusiasm for Halloween. Janus is one of the few beings in Halloween Town who was never alive, and, like Virgil, came into being as the holiday began to take on meaning. Of course, when I say "few," I do mean "few..."

Roman: So, both he and Remus kind of fill the role of Sally, but Roman is the romantic, adventurous stitch doll who fell in love with the Pumpkin King. He's always wanted to fill a larger role in Halloween Town, but he and Remus live under very strict rules... rules that both the brothers have broken several times. Roman also doesn't quite fit into Halloween Town—too whimsical, too optimistic, and too happy. It's part of the reason why he's drawn to Virgil, because he wonders if Virgil feels like an outcast as well.

Remus: Now, he fits into the Halloween mold quite nicely, and he's snuck out a great deal more times than Roman has. He's managed to sneak several suggestions into the Halloween plans over the years (mostly due to the fact that he and Janus have a... thing going on), though he's smart enough to not take credit for them. (And yeah, I know you were expecting him to be Oogie Boogie—I've got something better planned, just hang on.)

Logan: He's Dr. Finkelstein—and before you start jumping to conclusions, let me go over his role in a bit more detail. He was once a living soul who was a very respected scientist and well-beloved member of the community who dabbled in some odder scientific methods on the side (more of a Jekyll and Hyde angle than a Frankenstein one), and he eventually adopted two twin boys that were his pride and joy. Unfortunately, when he died, he wasn't able to keep in contact with them, so by the time he was able to get permission to go back to the human world to see them, he discovered that they had both died young. Undeterred, Logan used a method that he had only theorized about before, and brought both Roman and Remus back to life—well, not quite life, but you get my meaning. He doesn't want to lose his sons again, so that causes him to be very overprotective over the twins (and there is another very good reason why Logan mainly keeps them hidden).

Patton: He's a witch who works as Logan's assistant, and he is without a doubt the most un-Halloweeny person in Halloween Town. While he's cheerful and kind and incredibly friendly, he's also got a lot of knowledge about dark arts that's very beneficial to Logan. He's very caring towards the twins, and he's usually on their side when they want to participate in the Halloween planning and festivities—and it helps that Patton's the one person who Logan cannot physically say no to.
