(NOT EDITED) (MIDNIGHT UPDATE :p)

"Annie..." you whisper, walking up to the crystal.

You notice how small she is, not much taller than when she had left. Her hair is still short and her features sharp. She's beautiful, of course Armin would have fallen for her.

Your hand reaches out instinctively, wanting to feel if she's cold. Your just about to touch it, when you hear a gun click behind you.

"Don't touch her," the guards voice comes out dark and harsh.

"Easy, Hitch. She hasn't seen her in 9 years," Armin steps between you and the gun.

"I don't care. My job is to make sure no one messes with Annie, that includes any childhood friends," she lowers the gun. "Don't touch."

You nod, wanting so badly to take that gun and hit her with it. You just want to make sure she's not freezing in there. You want to touch the crystal and see if it's warm.

"You're probably so lonely," you whisper sadly, staring at Annie's face. "I'm sorry things had turned out so badly. I'll make sure you get home."

"Were you two close growing up?" Armin comes up beside you, looking at Annie as well.

"Yeah... we were the only girls the same age in the warrior program," you smile. "We were inseparable."

~Flashback~

"Annie, I don't want you to go," you lay in bed with the blonde girl, hiding under a blanket fort at your house. "Can't you stay?"

"They chose me to take the female Titan," she frowns. "I have a duty."

"But..." you start, but know there's no arguing. "I'll miss you."

"I won't be gone long and I promised my bad I'd come back home, same promise goes to you. I'll see you again," she sticks out her pinky and you take it with yours.

"Promise?" You stare into her eyes.

"I promise," she shows off her rare smile.

~End~

"Sorry you have to see her like this," he steps back and leans against the stone wall.

"She deserves better..." you frown. "How did this happen?"

"Well... we had found out she was the female Titan and tried to reason with her, but she chose to attack instead. She felt cornered and it was the only way. Eren, he transforms and tried to stop her without killing her, but he went sort of mad and I think she got scared, sealing herself into that. Probably hoping she'll be able to go home."

"I'll make sure she does. She promised me," you look away, a tear falling down the corner of your eye. You manage to hide it from Armin as you head back up the stairs, leaving your friend behind. "I'll be back..."

You wait in the hall, crouched on the ground with your back to the wall, hoping Armin will be up soon. You could run, this is another opportunity, but it doesn't matter anymore. You can't leave without Annie and the kids.

"Hey, you okay?" Armin comes out the door and sits beside you.

"I'm decent," you shrug. "Just wish things weren't like this."

"I understand," he folds his hands together. "I wish everyday that I could just go back and change things."

"What would you do differently?" You wonder, looking over at him.
