Nega-Gosalyn & Negaduck

There was only one garden in the whole neighborhood, well in the whole city, and his flowers bloomed under penalty of death. She knew better to steal from others but she thought it would be alright. Just needed one flower. She walked by and no one looked to be home. She made her way to the front and stooped in front of them. She just needed one so she plucked a red flower and stood.

She turned to leave and was face to face with the owner of the home.

"Good morning, Neagduck sir." She look at the ground as she shoved the flower behind her back.

"What are you doing?" he growled.

"I was admiring your garden." Negaduck tilted his head. He knew she was lying but why would a child risk lying to him?

"Who are you?" he growled.

"Gosalyn! Gosalyn Waddlemyer." She shifted a little and her dress ruffled slightly and he saw a red flower he thought was a rose behind her back.

"What boy are you trying to impress with that?" He narrowed his eyes at the flower behind her back.

"Do you want to meet him?!" She bounced on her heels, causing her curls to swing and she beamed at him.

He huffed. He didn't want to meet some snot nose punk. Then again they way she smiled made him want to pulverize the pipsqueak in front of her.

"Sure," he smiled an evil smile at her.

She grabbed his hand and he flinched away but put his hand back in hers. He let himself be pulled down the street by her. She was very demanding to be so sweet and apologetic two seconds ago. She smiled all the way to the destination, passing house after house and walking towards an old church.

Negaduck paused and sneered for a second. Then he shrugged it wasn't his business where young people met up to screw, as long it didn't interfere with his plans. The girl pulled him to the left to go around the building. A graveyard, definitely better place to hang out but this pink mess didn't look like that type.

He almost ran over her because she stopped walking so suddenly.

"This is my Grandfather." She sat at the base of the grave. "This is Negaduck, Grandpa. He wanted to meet you."

She shifted and looked guilty. "I took his flowers and lied. I'm sorry. I'll be better."

She waited a second then stood. She placed a red flower on the tombstone under two dates that read the same only seventy years apart.

"Happy birthday," she whispered.

Then she ran towards the broken playground that had still had an operational swing.

"No fucking way that kid knows what that means," he mumbled to himself, staring at the red carnation.

The red flowers and her pink dress stood out in the desolate grave yard but it want the only thing that was eye catching. The plots beside her grandfather's held same last name. The girl had lost all of her family. She ran back over to him giggling with hand full yellow flowers. He could even tell where she had plucked them from.

"To replace the red one." She smiled, handing them to him. Then ran back to the swing.

He stared at the flowers until a shiver went down his back. He didn't get cold but fuck was it freezing and getting late. Why hadn't the kid gone home?

"Kid, it's getting late." He walked towards the playground still clutching the flowers absentmindedly.

"Oh, I guess it is." She hung her head a little.

"And there's a city wide curfew," he prompted.

It was installed because of him. Decent people would be in the homes by now doors locked and she looked like she belonged to someone decent but she just nodded. He wasn't known for his patience but he could be.

"No one really comes into the outer parts of town," she mumbled eventually.

He sighed and nodded for her to follow. He didn't look back, knowing she had. Launchpad knew better than to mention the new addition to tonight's dinner. Though he did send a questioning glance at the flowers he was still holding. Negaduck crushed the stems in his hand proactively and covered them with an old newspaper. LP shrugged and poured an extra bowl.

Watching the girl just happy to have some super sparked something that shouldn't have in the villain. Hell, she couldn't lie or steal without apologizing but maybe he needed that because he knew that he could trust her. That was rare to come by in his line of work.

He shook his head and refocused. He needed to replace the flowers she took. Maybe he'd get someone to plant some violets.
