Donald & Dewey
Hurt & Comfort (ish)

Donald marked another day off the calendar and tried not to think of what tomorrow was. He knew it of course, that's why they were on a fishing trip in the middle of nowhere. He always kept the boys busy this time of year at least it was easy because the fishing was good.

He finished the last of the night's chores and smiled at the two lumps in the bunk. Wait? Two. The boat tiled at the weight of someone walking across the deck.

He walked up the stairs and saw Dewey sitting on the edge of the boat. He was staring at the sky and seemed to be talking to himself but grew silent when heard his Uncle shuffling behind him.

"It's past bedtime." He told the duckling.

"I know," Dewey mumbled not looking away from the horizon. "I just wanted to give it to her."

Donald was confused by that. He stepped forward and saw a paper plane in the boy's hands. He had never hidden the fact that their mother loved the sky from the boy but it still broke his heart to see it.

"Dewey," Donald choked out. The blue triplet turned to his uncle with pleading eyes.

"Just a few more minutes."

Donald checked his watch. It was only a few minutes to midnight and so he nodded. After the numbers changed to 12:00 he handed the watch to his nephew.

Dewey sat it on the deck of the boat and stood up and with a few words that sounded like a prayer he said, "Happy Mother's Day."

Then he threw the plane off the boat and with a gust of wind the piece of paper flew farther than either could see. Donald led his nephew back to his bed and when the duck checked for the watch Dewey was using it like a teddy bear.

The next day went by like any other day in May.
