Part Two:
There are No Heroes!

I punched the bag. It rebounded violently, nearly knocking me to the ground, but I dodged. I should've been asleep, but I hadn't had slept in weeks. It wasn't from lack of trying. Between nightmares and the company, I couldn't get more than an hour or two.

"Imagining Dark-dunces face?" He wrapped his arms around me from behind.

I jumped, and he loosened his grip. I had been with him for a month and I still jump at his touch. The sad part was, it had nothing to do with him. It was a reaction left over from my time with D. I expected a reprimand or an ill-timed attack, yet nothing ever came.

"What are you doing today?" His voice brought me back to the present.

He had asked nearly every day, and today was the first time I was planning on leaving the apartment. I didn't know what his reaction would be. I forced myself to relax.

"I'm going to visit an old friend." Instantly he was on guard. His body flexed, and I stilled. "Not Dark."

"I don't care. My answer is no," he said with a hard voice. I nearly stopped breathing. He let his shoulders relax, and he cupped my face, making me turned around. "It's not safe, Doll."

"You're not my babysitter." He didn't respond. "I need to do this."

"I'm going with you then."

"Thank you, but I'm going as a civilian. I can't ask you too," he stopped me by putting his thumb over my lips.

"You're not. I'm going."

I blinked. He was willing to take his mask off for me? Still, I wanted to meet Elmo alone. He might think I was being untruthful if Negaduck was there.

"Negs," I started, trying to pull his hand from my face. It didn't budge.

"I'll sit outside if I have to." He set his jaw. He had decided.

I realized he might not like who I was meeting. "If you go, you have to trust me. You can't get mad or try to make me leave."

"And why would I get mad?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Because you're you." He chuckled. I clung to his hand tighter, pulling it away. He still didn't move. "Promise me."

"I won't make you leave." I nodded.

"Thank you. We are meeting him in an hour."

"Prefect. That gives us time for a shower," he purred.

"You mean I have time for a shower?" I hit his chest playfully.

"Is that not what I said?" He kissed my shoulder.

I slipped past him easily now and made my way through the new apartment. We had moved after the whole Darkwing incident. Negaduck was convinced he had a tracker in my suit. Still, the new place was somehow nicer than the last.

Nega had gotten me some clothes. I didn't think about how, and when I did, it didn't bother me as much as it should have. A lot of things about him didn't bother me as much as they should. I didn't know how to be a villain, but Negs made it look easy and fun. It was a scary thought.

Still, one of my intrusive thoughts that had been keeping me up was that I should join him. He still continued his nightly outings and shared details when I asked about them. From what he had told me. Darkwing had pulled through, much to Negaduck's displeasure, but the two had stayed away from each other. That had been mostly impart to Negaduck, staying away from his usual place. He hadn't told me he was avoiding Dark, but I could tell he was, if only for my benefit.
