it was around 2am and violet was in bed sleeping with her mother. it was all peaceful and well in the land of dreams until a sudden turn in events came. her past. memories of her past weaved their way into her dreams usually subtly, however this time it was like she was just reliving them.

6 year old violet was being dragged out of her cell, cuts and bruises littered her body and she already knew where she was going, the experimentation room. the soldiers harshly dropped her on the floor of the room infront of the scientist who had a sadistic smile on his face.

"yes sir" violet replied. she was then strapped to a cold metal table and the scientist prepared a new serum they wanted to try out. violet already knew what was coming because she had overheard some guards talking about it.

the syringe was injected and then came excruciating pain, it burned like someone had set fire to her insides. a blood curdling scream came out of violets lips as she thrashed around trying to stop the pain.

violet shot awake sitting up in the bed and breathing heavily. tears made their way down her face, that was one of the worst nightmares she has ever had.

a few minutes before

nat was woken by whimpering, she turned over to see her daughter thrashing around all sweaty. 'she's having a nightmare' nat thought. she started shaking violet trying to wake her up all of a sudden violet screamed making nat flinch slightly because it was so sudden and so loud. she winced because ears are a thing and usually after you have woken up your ears are more sensitive to loud noises.

back to violet

she turned around and saw her mother looking at her concerned and dived in for a hug, she was so scared and just wanted her mum. nat lay down with violet still in her arms and stroked her head pressing kisses on her forehead. she had never seen violet so scared before and to be honest she was worried.

"мама" violet whispered into her mother's ear, reverting back to her first language: russian, tears still slowly making their way down her face. "да моя любовь?" (yes my love?) nat said, violet still clung onto her mother like it was the only thing she had left. "я боюсь" (i'm scared) violet said gripping into the back of nats shirt - nats heart ached for the little girl in her arms, whatever she saw must've had such a big impact on her.

"shhh it's okay honey, i'm here, there's nothing to be scared of anymore sweetheart" nat said drawing patterns on violets back in an attempt to calm her. violets tears stopped and she apologised for waking her mum up. "it's okay honey, you know if you ever want to talk about it, then i'm always here to listen and help you, i love you and would not hesitate to protect you or kill someone for you" nat said reassuringly. violet nodded and kept her face hidden in nats chest, slowly drifting into sleep again knowing her mother will protect her from anything and everything harmful. and she felt safe once again.
