October came quickly, the thoughts of leaving Hogwarts constantly drowned the current seventh year students with a consistent feeling of dread and sadness. The thoughts of leaving the safety of the castle walls, leaving the place they've called home and confided in — even in their darkest times. Maria, who has recently been silently questioning her own judgement, is sat in the quiet rows of books in the library, returning some transfiguration revision books to their rightful places on the tall shelves.

She's never usually in there, seeing her there at all is a shock to most however Maria has took to taking her N.E.W.T's as serious as Lily Evans took hers - which is now seeming harder than when she had told herself that. They'll take their final exams at the beginning of June, giving them the rest of the summer month to relax and make the most of their very last weeks at the school for witchcraft and wizardry.

Usually, the end of the students years at Hogwarts is quite exciting, they'd be thinking about their careers and what they're going to do with the rest of their lives but the truth is that the seventh years of 1978/79 haven't been feeling all that cheerful about leaving their childhood behind.

The Potter girl had written to James and the rest of the marauders every few days to which they would respond with updates on life outside the protective walls of the castle. Remus had been very eager - and Maria had been very happy to hear - to tell her that he'd been accepted into the protection and welfare of magical creatures department in the ministry of magic by a lovely metamorphmagus called Olivia, who had said they needed people with real experience - in Remus' case he is a werewolf - with the beasts and creatures of the wizarding world. She'd also mentioned how Professor Dumbledore had put in a good word for Remus and said what an incredible student he'd been despite his condition, which had only encouraged Olivia to hire him further.

Maria had been overjoyed when she'd also heard that Lily and Dorcas had recently started their healer training whilst Alice is joining Frank, Sirius and James in becoming an auror but also wants to write a book on herbology in her free time. Marlene had started training with a local quidditch team and Mary had started a job in Gringotts, training to be a curse-breaker. Peter had gone into helping with the writing of articles and publishing of the daily prophet which Maria thinks is very sophisticated.

Walking out of the library and down one of the empty corridors Maria freezes at the sound of whispers around the corner and backs up, pressing her back against the wall.

"Of course she doesn't know." A rather familiar voice of Regulus Black scoffs and Maria tries to hold her breath to hear the frantic conversation more clearly.

"Yet you're still caught up with her." The sneering voice of Severus Snape snaps at the younger boy who sighs, shaking his head. Regulus had just been going to meet Maria in the library when Snape had cornered him, bombarding him with pompous insults before questioning his fellow death eater suspiciously. "It's incredibly stupid of you, Black, I always knew that you liked the good girls but Potter's little sister, really?"
