Maria sighs in relief as she steps off the Hogwarts Express alongside Regulus, dragging her trunk behind her. They finally made it to Christmas break and they see James, Lily and Remus waiting for them on the platform making Maria smile brightly and rush towards them, wrapping her arms around James' neck in a tight hug. She feels James deflate slightly as he wraps his arms around his sister, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"I missed you, M." James mumbles into her ear and Maria smiles into his shoulder, seeing Lily fuss about Regulus' messy hair before pulling him into a hug. The sight makes her heart melt and her lips twitch as Regulus shakes his head at her consistent questions.

Maria quickly pulls away from James and wraps her arms around Remus, the tall boy chuckling softly and rubbing her upper back gently as he hugs her back carefully, fresh cuts on his hands and face and a large bruise on his cheek since the full moon had only been a couple of days ago.

"Enough interrogation, Lils—let me see the ring!" Maria rolls her eyes, pushing Regulus out of the way slightly as she embraces the red head who laughs and holds out her left hand, letting Maria inspect the gorgeous engagement ring.

It truly was fit for Lily Evans.

A shimmering gold ring with a small yet breathtaking emerald in the centre and Maria looks at James who shrugs with a sheepish smile on his face.

Then, she'd pulled her brother into yet another hug, tears in her warm, brown eyes, "I'm proud of you, James."

"Well you should be," James scoffs jokingly yet Maria thinks deep down he's rather serious. "I got Lily bloody Evans to promise to marry me—that's astronomical—it's momentous—"

"Why is James speaking in adjectives?" Remus questions after having just been to buy some chocolate from a stall that sells all the leftover sweets and treats from the trolley on the train so nothing goes to waste.

"He's being dramatic." Maria sighs and Remus makes an 'ah' sound of understanding.

"Does that trait run in the family?" Regulus questions, squeezing Maria's pinkie finger with his and she slaps him on the arm.

"Oh yes, it does." Remus nods and Maria and James share an astounded look before looking to the other three who just look at them in a deadpan sort of way.

"We'd better get back." James says, waving off the subject, pulling up his jacket sleeve and noting the time on his watch, looking around and seeing most families filtering off the platform and back to the muggle station. "And, please don't spend all night shagging, we have to get ready for Alice and Frank's wedding tomorrow morning."
