Leif
"How did it end?" Noi asked quietly.

He had noticed something was up the moment the Daemos walked into the doors of Ava's apartment. Leif didn't give the kid enough credit, he was smarter than he looked.

"After that night she was harassed by the camp leader...she became so invested in her training and inventing that eventually she...no longer had time for me." Leif spoke softly, hating himself for telling Noi even the smallest of secrets you kept.

"Starship you've been at it all day...please stop." Leif whispered as he watched you pace back and forth across the dirty floors of the tent, piecing your ring back together.

"I can't. I can't. I can't. I can't! This ring could be the savior of the humans. How can I just stop?" You asked with frustrated tears poring from your eyes. Leif just stared at you and wondered how one female could care about a group of people so intensely, when she never met a single member of the race.

"Then she was called out of the tent, not too long after we fought about her obsession over the ring." Leif took a deep gulp of the drink called alcohol stored in the girls' cabinet.

"Her father had sent palace guards. She was to return to the castle," He whispered as he looked across the sky and stared at the stars, "She didn't speak to me again before she left, barely even looked at me. I still have this-" Leif reached into his pocket and pulled out the original ring she had been working on. The crushed Jade of Daemos glued messily back together by Leif.

"It still has a bit of magic in it, I've gathered and stored mine here. Just don't... tell her or anyone else about this okay?" Leif looked up and realized Noi had been long asleep. Leif smiled to himself, realizing it probably was better he didn't know her intentions anyways.

"You have that?" Leif heard your light-toned voice speak from behind him.

His head whipped around to meet the love of his life eye-to-eye. He couldn't help but smile at how surprised you looked.

"How could I have left it? It was your life's work." Leif whispered and you walked over to him and cupped your hands together and held them out, hoping Leif would place the ring in between them.

He placed it in your palm and you sniffed. "Takes me back, well not nearly as much as seeing you here does." You smiled softly as you finally admitted a piece of the emotions that have been eating at you.

"I don't like the memories held to this ring, starship." Leif spoke rather coldly.

"Oh but I do love those memories held to that name, snowball." You giggled and he rolled his eyes, his cheeks were burning red to match your own, at the mention of his old nickname.

"We were always so different huh?" He asked you as the two of you reminisced and you just shrugged. There was always the stars connecting the two of you. They were like the missing piece that would connect the two of you together once all three pieces collided.

"Maybe at first, when you were convinced humans needed to be killed." You mentioned as you looked over at him slyly.

"And you were desperate to save them." He looked up at you with a big smile, "It seems fitting that you made a human the equivalent of your sister." He nodded approvingly.

Your smile only brightened. "She's my very best friend."

"I thought I was!" Leif gasped playfully.

"I don't know what to do with you...Leif." You had a familiar longing look on your face as your stared at him, one he hadn't seen in a very long time.

"You know you don't have to keep pretending that the spark doesn't still live between us. I feel the heat growing stronger the closer you are to me starship. You don't have to keep pretending-"

You put up your hand. "Stop it Leif." you spoke softly and simply shook your head. Leif felt the anger swell up inside of him as you shut him down. He couldn't understand why you didn't want this the same way he did.

"Will you just tell me why? Why you won't give me a chance to get to know the girl I lo-"

"Don't say it!" You whispered harshly, desperate to not wake Noi. Leif could hear the desperate fear in your voice as you snapped and he couldn't help but wonder where it all came from.

"Why Y/n? Why are you hiding from me?" He spoke his question softly.

"I can't have anything...anything Leif until this world is saved. Until my family is saved. Daemos is counting on me and so is Earth." Your voice was rapidly speeding up and your eyes darted around looking for a place to make your escape.

His eyes darkened and he stood so his gaze met yours. You could feel the intense shift in his demeanor and it frightened you. This was exactly what you feared would happen. "No, Daemos is counting on us. Counting on us to bring back souls." He clenched his teeth and his fist.

"Don't do it Leif, you promised me all those years ago-"

"And you promised to stay." He spat.

"You know I had no other choice, no one tells the king no." You retaliated, hoping this would remind him you were never intending on staying in the camp long in the first place.

"Everyone thinks you're dead." He told you, "Most of the guys from camp cheered and called it good riddance. Threw me towards the bar wenches, said there's other women out there, the fuckable kind." Your eyes were welling with tears and he couldn't tell why he felt the need to try and hurt you in that moment. He hated himself for it, especially with the look of horror growing on your beautiful, stupid face.

"Screw you Leif." Your voice sounded broken and his heart softened.

"I never did. I never even looked at someone who wasn't you. Please stop taking the only thing I've ever loved away from me." He begged and you felt the darkness shade your eyes as you shook your head and stepped towards the door.

"Good night, Leif." You paused and felt the tension between the two of you harden.

"Fuck you Y/n. Fuck you for making me love you and then pushing me away the second I found you again." It was his turn to have a broken voice and you couldn't bare it.

You slid the door shut after you stepped in. Leif raised his hand and felt a single tear slide down his cheek. Noi snored softly and he felt jealous of the bastard who missed that horrible conversation. Leif cried as he felt the darkness swell in the most vulnerable part of his heart.

***
Y/n
You were completely numb.

You had one mission...one goal. Now your feelings were getting in the way. They always had you just didn't recognize it properly until now. All you had to do was return with a plentiful amount of souls...you weren't even able to do something as simple as that without your feelings interfering.

Leif would just have to wait, like Daemos had all these years.

You hoped he would wait for you...but you couldn't shake the feeling that he may not be around for your anymore once you saved each world.

You looked at the big orb you created, containing the most stored magic.

"Well at least he was right about me being able to create something bigger." You whispered to yourself. You placed the broken ring across the messy ring he had given to me. I put it up against the orb and the overwhelming amount of magic contained in the orb fixed the shattered pieces of the ring.

"If we can just get more of these orbs around Daemos, we can have magic-charged rings for everyone. Until the crisis is solved."

You scribbled in your notebook.

Roses.

Roses attract and contain magic like no other. If you continue to create magical objects out of the gorgeous flowers, the magic crisis just might be saved.
