Chapter 19- A Dreadful Day

I opened my eyes. I had a good sleep. My eyes fell on Luke. His head rested on the edge of the bed and he had knelt on the ground. What the-

Was he like this for the whole night? His jet black hair rested on his face. I went closer and looked at his face. I noticed a small mole on his neck. Ah. That's hot!! I should better stop staring at him before he wakes up.  I checked my phone, ten missed calls from Shane. I should call him back. I pick up my phone to call him, until then the doorbell rang. I went to open the door. Shane was standing as straight as a line with the usual blank look. 

'Hey Shane.' I said pretty embarrassed. The clothes-

'Let's go.' He commanded and turned his back on me. 

'Wait just let me tell Luke.' I said and walked towards Luke's room. Shane held my arm and looked into my eyes. 

'I am just gonna tell him that I am leaving.' I said.

'Give him a call later.' He said and pulled me outside the door. 

He pushed me inside the car. UGH! I feel like I am being kidnapped.

'You know I came to pick you up last night.' he said starting the car.

'Oh I didn't know. I was asleep.' I said truthfully.

'I know. How can you sleep at a guy's house!?' He practically shouted at me.

'Ugh Shane. We are just friends.' I said wearily.

'Stop saying UGH!!!' He shouted. WHA-

'No I won't! You aren't the boss of me!' I shouted back.

'Yes I am!' He shouted.

'I am going to do what I like!!!!!!!!!!!!' I yelled. 

'I am gonna tell your dad. You have left me no other choice. He will be really disappointed when he finds out you are friends with a drunk.' He said and started the car. IS HE SERIOUS! I can't believe he went there!! Nah he is just threatening me.

'Go on tell him. I will still be friends with Luke.' I said stubbornly.

He didn't reply. This silence is killing me. 

When I reached home dad was in the dining room. I quickly ran upstairs and changed. I ran back down to dad.

'Hey dad.' I said sitting on a chair beside him.

'How are you Erika?' He asked. 

'I am good dad.' I replied.

'When did you come?' I asked.

'Just now.' he replied.

'Oh-' I said and looked at Shane. He coughed.

'Hey Mr. Hart I have been meaning to tell you something.' Shane said. 

NO! NOOOOOO!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I looked at Shane. He can't do this to me. I gave him a pleading look but he ignored me. 

'Yes Shane?' dad said. ARGH NO! I can't let this happen.

'Dad did you see today's newspaper?' I asked and looked for the newspaper.

'Wait Erika just let Shane complete.' dad said. What am I gonna do? I have done nothing wrong! I threw a confident look at Shane.

'Yeah so Mr. Hart, Erika has been hanging out with a guy......' Shane paused.

'WHO IS A DRUNK.' He completed.

Dad's eyes popped out of his skull. 

'Is it true Erika?' Dad asked me.

'He is not a drunk dad.' I said calmly. Stay calm! Stay calm! Breathe in! Breathe out!

'Oh yeah? Mr. Hart I am telling you, She is lying! The guy is a drunk!' Shane said loudly. Dad is listening to Shane attentively. My confidence is slipping.

'Do you have any proof!!!!???' I yelled getting up from the chair.

Shane's full lips curled up into a smile.

'I knew you would demand for proof.' He said with a smirk and took out his phone. Yeah right like he will have a proof.

'Here you go.' Shane said handing over the phone to dad. I looked at the phone screen. I can't believe this.

Dad looked at me angrily. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. There was a picture of me with Luke. The day when I went to the grocery store and found him as the hooded figure. Luke's face isn't clearly visible but mine is. Dad zoomed the picture to look at Luke. I am dead.

'So.....Now you have started to hang out with drunk people?' Dad asked me putting the phone down.

'Dad please!' I exclaimed madly.

'What please? what please Erika?!' he asked.

'Dad he is a good person!!!!!!!!!!!' I told him.

'Sorry Erika but you can't see him anymore.' He said.

Before I could say anything my phone rang. It was Luke. Great! I mean just GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dad peeked into my phone.

'Who is Luke?' He asked.

'The drunk guy.' Shane said.

Dad snatched the phone from me and picked it up.

'Don't ever call my daughter again.' dad said and hung up.

'Dad do you even know him!!!!??????' I yelled. 

'Yes. I know him. He's a drunk.' Dad said and got up from his chair.

'Dad!!!!!!' I shouted.

'Enough. End of the conversation. Go to school.' Dad said and went to his room. I can't believe this shit. Shane looks happy. 

'I bet mom would understand me better than you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' I shouted and got up to my room. I freshened up for school and went away.

Shane did ask me to go with him but I ran away. I hate this! I hate this so much! I hate that Shane told my dad! I hate that dad prohibited me to hang out with Luke and the thing I hate the most is that- I shouted at my dad. I have never shouted at him before.  

Another bad day. I had to wear full clothes. The red marks they look really bad. I went to class. I caught Emma looking at me with a disgusted look. She smirked. I went to my seat. Shane came after a few minutes and sat beside me. 

'Hey.' He said smiling at me. He is acting all normal, Like nothing happened at all. 

I didn't reply. 

'Hey?' he said again.

'HI!' I said and looked away from him.

'Are you upset Erika?' he asked.

'NO!! I AM REALLY HAPPY.' I said sarcastically.

'No need to be sarcastic.' he said.

'Why did you tell dad about Luke?' I asked.

'Who?' He asked.

'Luke.' I replied.

'Luke who?' He asked again. He is seriously irritating me now.

'Luke whom you call a drunk.' I said.

'I have erased that person from my memory and you better do the same thing too.' he said in his deep voice and looked at me.

'It's for the best.' He added.

Maybe it is for the best. Maybe I am always wrong. Maybe everything is my fault. I don't feel so good. My phone rang. It was Luke. Shane took my phone and declined the call.

'You can't keep me away from him. No matter how much you try.' I hissed at him.

'We will see about that.' He said and went away from me. Yeah we will totally see about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luke is my friend and no one! absolutely no one can change that.
