diggory's POV
-To say getting off the hogwarts express was a breath of fresh air was an understatement. I walked along side Amos and Arthur, their girlfriends far from us. "Promise to owl?" I wanted to vomit.
I spent the train ride in a small compartment, alone. I didn't want to see Peter or Remus or Sirius or especially James. I just- for two reasons. I was covered in hickeys and so was Remus. And second, I needed my break from listening to james rant of Lily.
I would obviously see them in a few days for Christmas and then New Years and then my birthday. January 1st was quiet the date to be brought into the world. Especially since I may enter my 17th year kissing someone at a party.
Arthur threw my bag in the trunk of his blue bug and Amos did the same with his bags. I sat in the back of the car reading the book I was reading on the train ride. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Christmas vibez huh?
I want to finish it just to get at Lily for something. The girl is the definition of perfection. I only wanted 2 things and typically with my will and ambition I'd get them.
1.) head girl
That was the only thing I wanted since first year, the pin was gorgeous in Slytherin colors but perfect Lily would get it, as she always does. When I made prefect, I thought it as one step closer but head girl as a Slytherin in a school run by headmaster Dumbledore, I was insane.
2.) james fleamont potter
I wanted him to be mine. I didn't want to be his or whatever bullshit girls spouted about boys because as Sirius said. You can at least be honest to yourself about feelings if not anything else. I wanted him to be mine just to have peace.
Just to be able to look in his eyes and see a glimpse of a future that didn't involve a forced marriage or blood supremacy. Just to be able to hold him and hear his rants about quidditch and not ever want to tune him out.
I wanted him because he crossed a line. When people said there's a fine line between love and hate, I thought it was complete and utter bullshit that was in romance novels to build tension. But then he saved me and let me keep my pride.
So yes. I'd read every muggle classic novel before Lily Evans to be better at her at one thing. The girl claimed to be my best friend but we all knew very well it was Sirius. I'll never tell him though cause it'd go to his head, Merlin knows it's big enough.
She read Romeo and Juilet, Hamlet, and A midsummer nights dream. I read the picture of Dorian Gray, Dracula, the great gatsby, wurthering heights, little women, the Odessey, Jekyll & Hyde, and now Frankenstein.
I don't understand how he people who call these their favorite books, their mental trophies of things to say you've done and not have to lie but at least somewhere in the old English there are good lines.
"I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend."
I read that before closing my book and looking out the window of the soaring car. Damn Shelley knew what she was talking about. Arthur parked us outside Amos and I's home and we said our good byes. I gave him a big hug before watching him head back to his car.
Amos and I had a drill for the short holidays. Get muggle take out for every meal and hide the trash from our parents if they come. We were expecting Sirius in a few hours but until then Amos and I sat across each other with a notepad.
We didn't have enough money for both of us to be at everyone a present so we had to brainstorm a gift from the both of us. "Ok, Marlene McKinnon?" Amos asked biting his lip. "Uh um, a scarf and a romance novel." I said and he wrote it down.
"Lily Evans." He said and I crossed my arms, "a box of bloody condoms." I said without thinking. "Down, Ranger, no need to go for her jugular." I heard Sirius said and Amos looked over with me to see him standing next to his bedroom door, walking toward us.
"Oh hello, so we already picked something for your girl but we'll let you get a separate gift for her." Amos spoke sweetly. "But I'm glad I'm not alone in hearing Diana go after Lily." Amos followed up. "It's quite amusing." Sirius added.
"Um how about we get her Anna karenina and a black hat?" Sirius mentioned. Damn it now I have to read that one next. "Alice fortescue." Ah what a lovely girl. I haven't seen her much this year. "Perfume in a glass bottle, chicks love those." Sirius said. "And cinnamon gum, she's always playing with those wrappers." I said and Amos wrote.
"Peter Petigrew." Never quite liked him but it's probably nothing. "Tea. And a fancy cup for it." Sirius said shaking his head and I maintained my silence.
"Remus lupin." Amos called and I knew. "Hardback copy of Edgar Allen Poe's works and a grandfather sweater." I spoke and Sirius grinned. "And lastly James Potter." Amos read off the list, getting his enchiladas ready.
Sirius looked at me and as he was about to speak I did.
"Um his quidditch sweater, a golden snitch, and a signed copy of quidditch through the ages." I said playing with my fingers. "If Evans hasn't beaten us to it." Sirius said and chuckled. I smiled and Amos wrote.
"Great, now who's ready for a trip to muggle London?" Amos asked standing up and Sirius held up his index finger. "Not dressed like that, Diggory." He said and then looked at me. "Both of you, we aren't going in our school uniforms." Sirius said and entered my room. Throwing clothes out the door before entering Amos's room and doing the same.
