Logan took a seat next to me, swinging his arm to rest on the back of the bench, something I noticed that he did often.

"So-" I began, before he interrupted me, bringing his hand up.

"Just hold still for a second..." he said softly, moving a strand of hair that I now noticed was in my face, behind my ear like it was nothing.

I couldn't help but stare at him as he made the movement.

I mean, where else was I supposed to look?

"Anyway, you were saying something?" he prompted, referring to before his sudden action, which I still wasn't over yet.

"Uh, yeah. I was just going to ask how you were," I said, trying to sound nonchalant.

"I'm doing alright. Although I'm a little nervous for the game next week. We've been really working at this new tactic and I'm hoping it will pay off when it comes to it. We could really use the win and I think it would be really cool to leave something behind, you know?" he ranted, self consciously moving his hands in expression.

I just nodded, content with simply listening. Especially after the move that he made earlier, leaving me still slightly flustered, and even more at the thought of it.

He then turned his head back to the road, looking slightly lost in thought. I was about to say something in reply, when the sound of a vehicle approaching snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Logan!" a familiar voice called from the driver's seat as a twisted feeling entered my gut.

"I...got to go..." he suddenly said, looking at me. "I told Madison I was fine taking the bus, but it looks like she has different plans."

As he stood up, I noticed his face held an emotion that resembled exhaustion mixed with a cringe of some sort, but he moved too fast for me to be sure.

He walked up to the red convertible that looked more expensive than the cost of every book I owned, combined.

Madison took off her sunglasses, staring me down as Logan waved goodbye, climbing into the car.

I felt unbelievably awkward and slightly embarrassed with myself as I waved back, not sure what else to do.

As if it couldn't get any worse, Madison suddenly grabbed him, pulling him closer as she kissed him, hard.

I looked down feeling out of place and honestly hurt.

I know that I'm just his friend, not his girlfriend - not Madison. But I found myself still wondering why.

Why couldn't I be his girlfriend? Why did he have to be with Madison? And why was this so hard?

She then pulled away, still holding him close as she glared at me, as if marking her territory.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her childish behaviour, feeling defeated.

She finally pushed him away, having enough of her fun.

Her last glance at me was short lived as she drove off, leaving me to wait for the bus alone.

I let out a sigh, feeling the tension leave my body. But in turn, exhaustion entered it, leaving me slumped over on the bench, hugging Pride and Prejudice in my arms as I struggled to keep my composure.

Next thing I knew, the bus came to a stop next to me, causing me to robotically enter and sink into my usual seat, this time without Logan.
