13. field of dreams

as soon as the school day ended, nini arrived back at the coffee shop on her own - proudly might she add - and full of bright and happy emotions as she made her way into towards the counter

"good afternoon kevin!" the brunette girl beamed as she jumped onto the little stool and plopped her bag on the table top

the man raised his eyebrows as he turned away from the coffee machine, wiping his hands on the towel rag before he leaned against the counter "someone's in a good mood for a monday."

nini giggled softly "why shouldn't i be in a good mood? it's a beautiful day, the sun is out, the world is wide," she gets cut off by the sound of her stomach rumbling and smiled sheepishly when seeing kevin's grin "and i'm a teensy bit hungry..."

kevin chuckled as he shook his head "erica's in the kitchen making some pastries maybe you could sneak one or two..." he winked, nini pointing at him

"i knew she became friends with you for a reason." nini smirked before hopping off of the stool and taking her bag as she made her way towards the kitchen doorway

entering the room, the smell of cinnamon and apple fresh-baked goods filled her nostrils and she widened her eyes

"it smells lovely in here!" nini exclaimed, catching the brunette woman's attention as she ran towards her niece with a bright smile

"you're home! how was it?" erica asked interested

nini laughed and exhaled deeply "it was...everything i could've imagined! everyone's so nice - ricky introduced me to his friends and they're wonderful!! and apart from the math and english, i give school a very good ten out of ten."

erica smiled at her niece and nodded "that's good."

nini took a deep breath as she took a little pastry from the tray and took a bite before her aunt could stop her as the brunette took her bag and pointed to the back exit to the field

"i'm gonna go explore!" she beamed brightly, slipping off outside as erica solely shook her head with a chuckle

as soon as nini stepped outside, she felt a light breeze rush past her and the sun shining past the light feathered clouds that painted along the blue sky.

the field was pretty big; a large landscape with a few trees - it was much more spacious than the palace garden of autonia and though it wasn't scattered with roses and exotic plants, it was as beautiful a landscape that nini had ever witnessed, maybe even more.

the brunette girl held onto her bag as she ran down the field as far and fast as her legs could take her, letting out a light squeal from the sudden descend of the slope before she arrived to a shaded area that had been marked by a large willow tree, the girl sitting down comfortably on the grass as she leaned against the trunk and looked out at her surroundings.

she smiled to herself as she took her phone out of her white backpack, making sure to get the building of the coffee shop in the frame as she took a picture, the smile on her face widening as she looked back at it.

the sudden shuffle of bushes behind her caught her attention - silencing the peace and tranquility and waking up a sense of fear - as nini scrambled up from the ground, clutching her bag and phone close to her

she hesitantly took a few steps closer to the bushes, moving them to the sides as the sound of a twig snapping made her lift her bag up to hit whoever or whatever it was but a voice stopped her

"easy there princess, it's me!"

nini let out a breath of relief when seeing ricky ducked down in the bushes with his school bag over his shoulder and his hands up above his head to protect himself, the girl groaning in response
