nini's eyes held horror and worry as she held ricky's gaze. her breathing had become shaky and all color had drained from her face "y-you weren't s-supposed to see that..."
"you're leaving early." ricky said in a small, vulnerable voice.
nini sniffled, trying to reach for the paper "ricky-"
"were you going to tell me?" he asked, putting up a front and pulling the paper back as he stood up, holding it firmly in his hand
"n-not like this." she answered, standing up before him, fiddling with her fingers
"so...this is what you wanted to tell me right? downstairs?"
nini nodded meekly, her heart rate still elevated as she waited to see his reaction, but he didn't say anything...he was just looking at her in disbelief, hurt being the only expression upon his face.
"please believe me that-that i wanted to tell you..." she whispered, her eyes filling up with more tears "b-but i was scared! and-and i felt like if i did sooner then that meant it would make everything all the more real...i don't want to leave you...especially not since you found out about your parents-"
"i'm not fragile nini." he said bluntly, exhaling shakily
"i know..." nini replied quietly "i-i'm sorry..."
he kept his gaze on her before looking back down at the paper, feeling his heart sink lower "w-when?"
nini gulped and wiped her tears away "t-two weeks."
ricky rubbed his hand over his face to prevent any emotion to rise even more, exhaling deeply again as he went to sit down on the bed "two weeks."
he could feel her gaze on him before she walked over and sat beside him hesitantly "i'm sorry for not telling you before." she whispered "i'm really sorry-"
when ricky glanced at her, he saw her red puffy eyes and her heartbroken expression which only made his own heart drop further in his chest, sighing in defeat as he just wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into his chest, letting her relax into his embrace as she also let a few tears out, holding onto him tightly
"it's okay..." he said soothingly "we'll be okay..."
nini shook her head, sniffling "w-we-c-can't-"
"i know." ricky closed his eyes and hugged her tighter, closing his eyes as he rested his cheek on the top of her head "i know..."
they knew that all that was left for them was two weeks. and they made a silent promise to cherish and make the most of it as much as they could.
