Dave waited until he heard some type of voice or noise to confirm it was actually Narnia that called him.

"Dave." Narnia spoke after what seemed like forever.

What happened?

Narnia hesitated, a lump forming in her throat.  She had no idea what to say.

Um. . . I went to see my father.

Why you gotta lie to me?

What do you mean?

You know that's not the truth, if it was, you would've told me.

I'm not obligated to tell you if I'm going to see my father or not.

True, however,  you would've still answer my calls or texts.

Narnia had no reply to this, knowing he was right. She stayed silent.

Why can't you trust me?

I do.

Then tell me what happened.

I can't, dave! it's too. . . complicated.

. . . Let me see you.

Not right now.

Why not? That's too complicated too, huh?

Dave—

Nah, it's cool man, I'll hit you up later.

Dave hung up before Narnia could say anything else.

She held the phone to her ear for a moment, before slowly dropping her hand in her lap.

Thinking of everything that happened to her as well as Dave being upset at her for not opening up to him, has made her feel overwhelmed with emotion causing unwilling tears to abrupt into her swollen eyes.

She felt the need to scream and lash out, but her energy was so drained, she couldn't do anything but sleep, to escape the physical and emotional pain.

Just for the moment.

Her slumber lasted three hours.

When she woke up, she still felt tired  — but she had no desire to go back to sleep.

Her heart still heavy from her small mishap with Dave. She went to thinking.

She thought, maybe Dave would understand. Maybe he would care for even more.

She even thought maybe he'd take her with him, just so she'll be closer to him. But, it was only a silly thought.

The only thing she didn't need was pity from him.

She decided to go ahead and trust him with what has been happening to her.

She searched around for her phone.

When she found it, she turned it on and facetime'd Dave.

Her face was out of the camera, as she waited for him to pick up.

He answered on the third ring.

Baby?

dave spoke in a tired voice.

Hi, love.

I'm sorry.

Me too.

. . . You okay?

No. Are you?

No.

Why not?

Because you're not.

It was quiet for a moment on Narnia's part.

You want to talk about it?

Yeah.

Talk to me, baby.

. . .I got into a fight with my biological mother.

What were yall arguing about?

It was physical.

Physical?

With weapons. . . knifes, specially.

What did she do to you, Narnia?

Dave grew defensive quickly.

She. . . um, stabbed me in my side, knocked me out. That's why I've been away.

Dave was fuming. He stayed quiet to control his anger. He knew she had a messed up mother but he never imagined this.

Dave?

. . .How long?

How long what?

How long has she been abusing you?

Oh. .  . forever.

Who else knows?

My father. He's in prison though, so he can't do anything.. And my aunty but, she doesn't want me.

. . . Do you want to leave?

All the time.

Get your things.

What?

Pack light, I'll be there tomorrow.
