Dan P.O.V.

"Dan! Please! I..." He took a deep breath. "I'm in love with you Dan, I always have been," shock pulsed through me. My best friend was in love with me? For how long? How long had I known him? I became so preoccupied with my thoughts that I forgot Phil was expecting an answer and I heard him sigh on the other side of the door.

Dropping my duvet on the bed, I reminded myself to breathe as I opened the door. Phil stood out in the hall looking terrified, tears streaming down his face and his milky skin looking even paler.

"What?" Of course I had heard what he said but I felt like I needed to hear it again just so I was sure.

"I'm in love with you," I looked directly in his sparkling blue orbs, eyes that I always loved. The moment our eyes met a hundred flashbacks hit me at once. All the little smiles, the way he always blushed around me, how near he always sat next to me, the times he put his arm around my shoulders, the way he wrapped his arms around me the first time we slept on the sofa together... how had I never put it all together before? How could I be so oblivious?

A smile tugged at my lips which made Phil's expression soften. He looked so fragile, like he was about to fall apart, so I stepped forward and hugged him tightly as if to keep him together. He hugged me back without hesitation, melting into it.

"It's okay Phil, you don't need to be scared," I mumbled. His breaths slowed as he relaxed and he pulled away slightly and kissed me on the forehead. There had always been a spark between me and Phil and I had always feeling for him, I'm not sure why I didn't notice them or tell him before.

We just stayed hugging each other for a few minutes then Phil sighed and linked my hand with his before leading me to the living room. He sat on the sofa and I sat in between his legs and lay back on his chest, suddenly feeling quite small even though I was taller than him by a few inches.

The amount of relief that had swept through me when Dan hugged me left me feeling exhausted. I guided him to the sofa and he leant against me, his hair brushing against my cheek. I wrapped my arms around his waist and half an hour slipped past us. Dan's rumbling stomach interrupted the comfortable silence and I chuckled as his cheeks heated up.

"Well that was embarrassing," he commented.

"Come on, let’s go eat," we went into the kitchen and Dan watched me search through the cupboards.

"I'll just have cereal, I'm not that hungry."

"I think I will too," I replied, frowning at the almost-empty shelves.

We sat opposite each other at the table and even though I tried my hardest to keep my eyes down, I kept getting lost in Dan's chocolate ones. When we finished he tilted his head to the side and did a one-sided smile. He only did it when he was tired and I couldn't help but smile back as butterflies danced in my stomach, his crooked smile paired with messy hair made him so adorable.

"Want to go to bed?" I asked him and he nodded sleepily and stood up and I followed him into his room. He fixed the duvet and crawled inside then looked at me expectantly. I got in and lay next to him and put my arm around his shoulders. Dan rested his head on my chest and laid an arm across my stomach. I traced circles on his back which was something I always did to soothe him and his breathing started to get deeper.

"Phil?"

"Mmm?"

"I love you," his voice was quiet but the words rang noisily in my ears. All it took were three words to make my heart race and the butterfly population in my stomach to triple and the corners of my lips to be pulled upwards.

"I love you too," his head lifted and within moments his lips were pressing against mine. They parted slightly and mine fitted with his perfectly like they were made for each other. The kiss was cautious and gentle, which only lasted a few seconds but it meant everything.

He pulled away slowly and a smile danced on his lips. My cheeks turned red as I melted into his eyes. He lay his head back down on my chest and gradually sleep took him. I tightened my hold on him, the sound of his deep breaths comforting me as I drifted off.
