Nini was sitting cross legged on her bed,a concentrated look on her face as she was trying to finish up her math homework.She got interrupted by a light tapping on the window causing her to turn around.Surprise over took her as she saw Ricky outside,a lopsided grin on his face.
She moved to the window and opened it up.
''Hi!'' he said.
''What are you doing here? And how many times have I told you not to climb on the window since the last time you fell?'' she complained.
''Well,are you going to let me in or let me fall?''he asked.
She rolled her eyes and moved out of the way so he could land of the floor.
''So what are you doing here?'' she asked again grabbing her book.
He shrugged.'' I was bored.''
''Didn't I tell you to rest?''
''Well I did rest and sobered up and now I'm bored.Also I do remember you saying to call you if I needed anything.'' he said with a cheeky smile.
''And what is it that you need exactly?''she squinted at him.
''Company.'' he said
''Ricky!'' she whined.'' I got studying to do.'' she said pointing at the books sprawled all over her bed.
''Oh come on,you have been studying all day,I know it.Look,you should finish what you're doing now and I'll sit in your desk quietly but after this you're taking a break.''he stated.
She looked at him with uncertainty before reluctantly agreeing.''Fine,but you're staying quiet for the next minutes,I need to finish this.'' she said.
He nodded and pretended to zip his mouth with his hand causing her to giggle.
''Dork.'' she said under her breath.
He couldn't help but smile at her at the name as he took a seat at her desk.For the next twenty minutes or so Nini focused on her work while Ricky,after mindlessly scrolling on social media,turned his focus on her.It was when he looked at her that he realised she was still wearing his clothes,causing him to smile to himself.Her hair were on a bun, a few strands of hair falling and adorning her face.He noticed her tongue slightly poked out as she concentrated on the task in front of her and couldn't help but think how cute she looked.He got shaken out of his trance by the slamming of the book,signalling that she was done.
''Okay,I'm done.God that was hard.'' she said and massaged her scalp to soothe the headache her homework caused her.
He sighed.''Neens,how many times have I told you not to push yourself that hard?'' he said as he moved towards her bed and took a seat next to her.
''Many times.'' she mumbled.
''Then why do you do it? You have been studying all day and you have been stressed,I can tell.''
''I know I know,I just push myself harder because exams are soon and you know how bad I wanna get into NYU.''
''I do,and if I'm qualified to get there then you definitely are.'' he said with a slight giggle.
''Shut up,you deserve it as well.'' she said and looked at him.''I promise I won't over work myself the next weeks.'' she said.
'' That's all I needed to hear.'' he said with a smile and covered her hand with his,caressing it.She felt a blush rising in her cheeks at his touch and looked up at him.Her phone buzzing broke the silence and she quickly grabbed to see if she had a notification from Aiden,a frown on her face when she realised she didn't.
''Okay,so what is this about?'' he asked curiously.
''What?''
''Since I got here,you have been checking your phone and every time you do you look like a kicked puppy.'' he said.
She stood up from the bed and bit her lip.''I don't know,we don't really talk about these stuff.''
''Oh.So it's about Aiden.'' he cleared his throat uncomfortably.''You can tell me if you want.''
''It's not a big deal.'' she said as she fiddled with her phone in her hands.''We got into a kind of big fight last night at the party and he left.And he told me we would talk today but he hasn't texted me at all.'' she said.
''Well,he's a jerk.'' he said as he stood up as well,not being able to hold it back.
''What? No,he's probably just mad.'' she justified.
''Nini,come on that's an asshole move.He hasn't texted you all day!'' he exclaimed.He knows that he shouldn't get involved with this situation given his feelings but he couldn't help it.
''Ricky,he isn't,he's just mad and I get it okay?He was kind of justified last night.''
''Why? What was it that you did so bad that caused you to fight?''he asked mockingly.
''I- '' she stammered.''It's not important okay?'' she said.
''I'm just saying,you deserve better.And I do remember you saying that he left last night.'' he said smartly.
She left her phone on the desk with a bit more force and turned sharply to look at him.
''Well you do seem like you remember a lot from last night.Is this the only thing you remembered Ricky?'' she asked.
He got taken aback by her question not expecting she would ask this.
''What's your point?''
''Oh,I think you know exactly what my point is.'' she said,a dry chuckle leaving her lips,as she thought about how he remembered perfectly fine everything that happened and was said between them the night before.
''And I know for a fact you're saying this because for some reason you don't like Aiden or -''
''That's not why!'' he cried.He took a breath before he continued.'' I just think you deserve better.Or someone better.''
''Oh really? Like who? Hm?'' she asked expectantly.
Me,he thought,me,I'm right in front of you.
''Also,why do you seem so interested in my love life all of a sudden?I never meddled with your relationships.'' she said matter of factly.
''Um.'' he tilted his head.''Well that's not entirely true.'' he said.
''Are you serious? I never said a single thing when you were with Allison,even though she was the worst.All I did was support you and be there for you.So why are you acting like this?'' she asked,almost yelling at this point.
''I-It's not-''
''And you know for a fact that I will do the same now no matter what my opinion on her is.''
''Wait,what?'' he asked confused.
''I know you apologised or whatever last night about being with her but I know you're still hung up on her,okay?''
''And how did you end up in that kind of conclusion?'' he asked exasperated,understanding that he completely misunderstood everything.
''Because you hooked up with her last night? And then you told me you are hung up on someone.Who else could it be? Who?'' she pressed.
''You! It's fucking you! I'm in love with you!'' he yelled,slapping a hand on his mouth as he realised what he said.
She felt her breath hitch at his words and she took a step back.
''What?'' she whispered and finally looked up to see him,the air between them frozen.
''I-'' he started and ran his hands through his hair nervously.''You weren't supposed to find out like this.'' he muttered.''Are you-'' she began.
''But It's true,and I'm sorry you had to find out now and like this but it's true, I love you,I do,and these past months,seeing you with someone else has been torture.I kept it to myself but hearing you say all that,I couldn't take it when all I want is you.'' he breathed.
''This is so fucking unfair.So unfair.'' she said a moment later after she registered everything he told her.
''Unfair?''
''Yes,unfair! Because for months I had to watch you with Allison,seeing you get hurt by her and be the one to console you,only to see you run back to her.I had my heart broken for all of this and now that I moved on with someone else you finally realise you have feelings for me?'' she said,tears threatening to escape her eyes.
''No,no,it's not like that!I always had those feelings okay? I was just too dumb to realise that I did,and I'm sorry,okay? I am.But it's the truth,and I couldn't hold it to myself anymore.''
They stayed silent for a few minutes,looking intensely at each other,their breaths heavy.
''Does this mean you have feelings for me too?'' he asked tentatively.
She looked away.''It doesn't matter.''
''Yes it does.'' he said and took a step to reach her,grabbing her chin to make her look at him.
''It does.I need to know.If you don't have any,we can just never speak of it and move on.But I need to know.'' he grabbed her cheeks softly and caressed them.
''I-'' she hesitated.''I do,of course I do.'' she whispered causing him to smile.
''But this is so messy,Ricky.'' she removed his hands from her face.''I think I need some time to think,this is just so overwhelming and I-I need to speak to Aiden as well.'' she said and his face immediately fell.
''Nini-''
''No,Ricky,I think you should go.I need to think and I can't do it when you're here,especially when you're so close to me.'' she breathed.
''Okay.I understand.'' he said sadly.''I'll see you soon?'' he asked,uncertainty in his voice,as he caressed her cheek.
''We'll talk soon.'' she said and he nodded.
He moved away and took a last look at her,before he climbed off the window and landed on the garden.
Nini fell flat on her bed and tried to understand what exactly happened.From Ricky getting there,to talking about their future to reaching the point of him confessing he is in love with her.What did even happen? She finally heard him say what she had wanted to listen for years and yet her brain and the constant over thinking ruined it.She made him leave and she saw the hurt in his face,and knowing she was the one who caused it,made her feel even worse.But she needed to clear her thoughts and talk to Aiden before anything else happened.And she knew exactly what she should do.
