"There-there's this girl that I like..." Link said, dropping his gaze to the ground, his usually composed demeanor changing. You saw a faint flush on his cheeks, coupled with a hesitant expression.

"Huh, Link?" You retorted, dumbfounded. You felt your stomach drop, feeling sick and slightly hurt from his words. Nonetheless, you wanted him to finish what he said and hoped that his words were directed at you.

"She has caught my eye since the start of our classes and I've liked her since then." Link said fondly, with a wistful look in his eyes. He leaned his back on the backrest of the bench and let out a hearty sigh, directing his gaze to the dark sky above.

"The-then, that must be nice. She's one lucky girl!" You said, mustering up an enthusiastic voice, paired with an incredibly insincere smile that felt painful to your face. Staring at Link's tender expression, you felt your heart break silently. You were truly certain that the expression he exhibited was that of someone whom has fallen in love. You couldn't help but feel envious of the girl in question.

"Yeah, she's a great girl." Link enthused with a big smile. He then craned his neck and earnestly stared at you.

You couldn't understand why he was bringing up such a topic on your date. Wasn't he being a bit insensitive? Why was he talking about another girl on your date? You felt your mood dampen and suddenly, you just wanted to go home.

A moment passed, silence descending upon the both of you.

"Link, I think I want to go home now." You uttered, not meeting Link's gaze, feeling down.

"Is something wrong, (Y/N)?" Link asked, noticing your suddenly dim countenance.

"I'm okay, don't worry. It's just that it's getting late." You thought up of an excuse quickly; staring at the now quieter park.

"Are you sure? I hope you're not feeling unwell from your allergy earlier." He asked in concern.

"No, no... I think I've just used up all my energy and feel tired." You said in a quiet tone, not feeling in the mood. Link silently agreed, understanding that you felt tired. You helped Link tidy up and collect the left over food and some trash. Link carried the plastic bag. You noticed his hand move to hold yours, but subtly you moved your hands away. You walked slightly ahead of Link and arrived first to his car.

He pressed a button on his key and the doors to his car unlocked. You opened the door and sat down first, patiently waiting for Link to enter as well. The ride back to your dorms was unlike the comfortable silence earlier. Link noticed your quietness and the heavy atmosphere that hung in the air.

"(Y/N), are you ok? I hope I didn't do anything that upset you." Link asked in an anxious tone.

"There is nothing, Link. I'm fine." You replied curtly.

According to Link's knowledge, if a girl said she's fine, then she is totally not fine! He pondered on what he could've done earlier that could've made you uptight; but unfortunately, he couldn't come up with anything. He mentally punched himself in the gut and felt guilty.

"Well, alright then." Link responded with an uneasy smile.

You stared out of the window and witnessed the once vibrant city, dimmed down. The streets were alight with jaundice and warm lights and the people walking in the streets were more quiet and somewhat, it felt more intimate. Peering at the couples you passed by, you recalled Link's statement earlier and felt more upset. But, you couldn't do anything about it; you can't control his feelings for another person.
