DESCRIPTION
IT WAS NOT LONG AFTER THE SECOND WORLD WAR ENDED that Bette Berkley found met a man called Stefan Salvatore. He was kind and funny and, unlike many of the people she met, didn't care about the colour of her skin or the fact that she had no interest in dating men. Stefan liked her as a person, even standing up for her when they were in public together and other people started shouting at her. And when Bette was walking home one night and was attacked in the street, it was Stefan who found her and saved her by revealing the truth to her. That he was a vampire but he wouldn't hurt her and that his blood would heal her injuries.
IT WAS A MIRACLE IN BETTE'S EYES AND DIDN'T CHANGE how she viewed her friend. Or, it didn't change it too much. She couldn't help all her questions. What wasn't a miracle, though, was the outrage when her attackers realized that she was fine and attacked her the next night, as well. And this time, Stefan was not there to save her. Instead, Bette became a vampire, just like her friend, and Stefan was there to help her adjust.
SEVENTY YEARS LATER, BETTE STILL CONSIDERS STEFAN her best friend. So when she and their friend Lexi go to visit him for his birthday, she has no way of knowing what was to follow what was supposed to be a simple visit.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
› so my idea would be that this would start during season two, but Bette has been in Beacon Hills for a while already. So if you do want to start it in season one, you can, and Bette would pull up with Lexi for Stefan's birthday
› I would prefer it if you changed the summary a little, it feels a bit too rushed to me, but no worries if you can't think of how
› Bette is a lot like Lexi in the sense of being more fun-loving and less serious than Stefan. She also has no problem with blood, so she can drink human blood safely
› Bette will also be helping Caroline with adjusting to being a vampire, which is how they grow close and eventually develop feelings
› I think it would make sense for Caroline and Bette to be a relatively fast burn (depending on when you start the story). After Caroline and Matt break up, Bette would be the one to help comfort her and then instead of getting together with Tyler and all the feelings that are there, she'd get together with Bette
› she has a good relationship with the rest of the Mystic Falls Gang as well. Except for Damon who she only really tolerates because he's Stefan's brother and knows that he cares about his brother even if she thinks he shouldn't
› Bette is also strictly into women. Like she has absolutely no interest in guys and never has. She does not hide this fact, either. Does she scream it from the rooftops? No. But she wouldn't hide it
› as for the end of the story, you can take it as far into the show as you like! If you don't want to write the last few seasons, you definitely don't have to (I know I'm not super fond of them either), but if you do want to, you can absolutely go for it!
› one thing I know for sure HAS to happen is that one day when Caroline is feeling down and Bette is helping her feel better, she serenades her (not fantastically) with Sweet Caroline, which gets her to laugh and smile and they dance together and it's really cute
› apart from that, I don't really have too many ideas! Feel free to play with fitting Bette into the show and adding your own flair and history to her character!
