Disney announced that there will be a second film joining the Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated film franchise and it's going to called Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid was inspired by the popular graphic novel series by Jeff Kinney. The book series was later turned in four live-action movies in 2010. The franchise was moved to Disney after their Fox merger to boost up Disney+'s movie category after its launch.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies will be produced by 20 Century Animation and Color Force. The first film in the new series will be released on December 3rd on Disney+.

The voice cast for this movie include Brady Noon, Ethan Williams Childress and Chris Diamantopoulus, while the film itself will be directed by Swinton Scott.

Rodrick Rules is also the title to Jeff's second book in the series which followed after the angsty middle school adventures of Craig Heffley, his best friend Rowley and his jerky brother Rodrick that began in 2007.

There are now 16 books to date in Kinney's series.

Rodrick Rules is scheduled for a 2022 release on Disney+.
