It's a cool Wednesday afternoon as you walk to the courtyard with Zim, eager to see what he has planned for today. Hopefully it's nothing too drastic; you have an awful headache today and your eye is getting worse—
Suddenly Zim breaks away from you and runs over to a ledge where Dib and Tak are sitting. Without a word, he shoves Dib off the ledge into some brambles, and hears a yelp in surprise.
"Zim!" You scold him, hustling over to the others. You move past him to get to the fallen Dib, and you try to pluck him from the brambles.
"I have come to accept and reciprocate your feelings for me, Tak!" your green friend announces, "You are now my... what's the word— girlfriend? Yes, my girlfriend! FEEL HONORED!"
They stare at each other wordlessly; Tak pulls out some soda and sprays him with it. He falls to the ground, screaming and smoking. You wince and pull Dib from the floor. Zim eventually picks himself up from the ground, out of breath.
"Maybe Dib and his huge head are right. You really are an alien; just a horribly disguised, gross one." She muses, crushing the empty soda can and tossing it on the ground.
"I'm telling you! He— hey, my head isn't that big!" He yells very close to your ear; this aggravates your headache and you cry out in pain. Usually, by this time Zim would be threatening Dib's life over something dumb, but that strangely doesn't happen. He's too fixated on Tak... is he really in love with her? He pays no attention to you.
You can't tell why, but you feel a tightening in your chest; your throat feels like it's closing and you can't breathe well... are you dying? It sure feels like it. Tears sting your eyes and your headache becomes a migraine. Maybe you are dying... deciding to leave not only the situation but the entire building, you remove yourself from the group as quietly as possible so you don't make a scene.
The journey home is long and tiring... you really just want to collapse on the ground and wait for whatever comes. You fall through your front door and just lay on the floor for a while. You peel yourself off the ground and just cry.
"Sir, are you alright?" Your computer interrupts, it's monotone voice somehow sounding concerned.
"Computer, what am I feeling right now?" You sniffle, "why do I feel this way? What happened?" You can't maintain your steady voice; you're so embarrassed in front of your technology.
"Sir, this is due to Zim, correct? You're feeling jealous that he's not paying attention to you. You've gotten used to his praise that when you don't get it, you feel like this."
You pause. "Oh. I'm a real idiot, huh." you wipe away your tears, "Will it ever go away?" This positively sucks. You're upset over something so stupid as Zim not giving you attention. How pathetic. No wonder you're defective.
"It will go away in due time."
You nod. Without another word, you go to your bedroom and just lay in bed— not sleeping, just laying there and contemplating the sad, pathetic life you live. You heard somewhere that Irkens self-loathe when they fail, but you never thought it would be this awful.
Bzzt.
Huh?
Bzzt bzzt.
You pull your phone from your pocket and see that the Membrane siblings have both texted you at the same time.
Gaz: hey what happened? i saw you leave early
Dib: what's up? U okay?
You sigh heavily and stare at the messages. You decide to answer Gaz first. Dib will probably just make fun of you.
