At some point in the car ride to the hospital, you'd fallen unconscious, much to the dismay of Dib and Gaz. When you wake up, you're in a white hospital bed and all you can smell is sterilized air. You peel open your eyes and look around lethargically. Your one eye is still pitch black, though. You bring a hand up to it and feel a soft patch of cloth covering it. Mumbling reaches your ears and you shakily sit up.
"Hey, you. You're finally awake." Gaz smiles, placing a hand on the bed railing. Dib lets out a snort and stifles his laughter.
"How long have you been waiting to say that?" He asks, leaning against the wall.
"Far too long." Gaz replies, her eyes not leaving you.
"Uhhh," you groan, clutching at your head, "what the fuck happened?"
Gaz gently takes your uninjured hand in hers, caressing it with her thumb, "I don't know, actually. You apparently dragged yourself to our place after getting hurt somehow. There was blood all over the road and in the snow."
You grimace as you remember. Oh yeah, that definitely wasn't a dream. "Sorry to bother you guys like that..."
"Hey, don't worry about it." Dib hastily chimes in, pushing off of the wall and walking to your side. "We're just glad you didn't bleed out somewhere."
At this moment, you really wish you bled out somewhere. Having to rely on others for your own well-being really damaged your pride. You're an Irken! Irkens should be self sufficient and—
Oh, right, that's what got you into this mess. Being an Irken.
"How'd this even happen, anyway?" Dib asks, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder.
"Well—"
The door to your room bursts open, startling all three of you. Tak stands there, her face contorted in worry but she slightly relaxes when she sees you. She shakes off her jitters and tries to calmly make her way over to the bed.
"Hey, sorry I'm late! I came as quickly as I could!" She trembles a little, taking a seat on the edge of the bed. "How're you feeling?" she asks with a frown.
"I'm fine, really. Just can't see that well." You admit and shrug your shoulders. Tak nods but isn't relieved that much.
"Where's Zim?" Gaz asks her, and you tense up considerably.
"He wasn't answering any of my transmissions," she sighs, "I stopped by his base but his SIR unit answered the door." realizing what she just said, she quickly slaps a hand over her mouth and looks at Dib nervously.
He waves a hand dismissively, "It's fine, I know you're an Irken. Gaz filled me in again."
Tak looks wordlessly at you and then back at him.
"And I know he is too, don't worry about it." He sighs, leaning on the bed railing. "You're my friends, and I've decided that I'm not gonna sell you out just because you don't share the same DNA as me."
You look up at him, absolutely touched, "Dib..." you whisper, placing your free hand on his.
His face flushes red and he continues, "A-aliens or not, I care about you guys." He gently squeezes your hand. "And I'm not gonna let anyone take you from me."
"Ugh, gross, Dib." Tak scoffs, glaring up at him.
"Yeah. Barf." Gaz gags.
A beat happens and you all burst into collective laughter. You honestly love this dynamic between all of you, and you wouldn't change a single thing about it. After the laughter dies down, Tak places a comforting hand on your uninjured leg.
