Soon You'll Get Better

-⁛-

Percy POV

After swimming practice, I couldn't stop shaking. I felt awful, and it wasn't from Drew. I don't know what it was from, but I wasn't feeling so well.

My headache had returned, and now I was feeling nauseas as well. I was struggling to get air into my lungs, and I was struggling to breath. I was also starting to feel faint.

I got back home a few minutes later, I stumbled to my bedroom and laid on the bed.

My mom walked in. "What's going on, honey?"

"Nothing," I answered.

My mom frowned. "Doesn't look like nothing."

I groaned. "I'm just not feeling well okay?"

And just as I predicted, my mom went into over protective mom mode. "What's wrong? Do you have a fever? Should we go to the hospital? What happened? Are you okay? Do you need anything?"

"I'm fine, mom," I lied. I wasn't fine and I knew it, I just didn't want her to worry.

She raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure?"

"Yes. I'm sure, I'm just going to rest," I assured her.

She didn't look convinced. Just then, Paul walked in, "What's wrong?"

"Percy says he's not feeling well," mom explained.

I was too busy trying not to throw up or pass out.

"Do you need anything, son?" Paul asked, concerned.

"I'm fine," I insisted.

She didn't believe me. And it was a good thing she didn't.

I bolted. I couldn't hold the nausea in any longer. I ran to the bathroom, throwing up. I threw up my lunch. I didn't even eat that much. I ate one slice of pepperoni pizza and an apple. And I threw it all up. But the worst part is, after I finished throwing that up, I started coughing and throwing up blood. Blood. Oh Gods. Why was my life so messed up?

My mom saw and gasped. "Paul! Call 911! Percy's coughing up blood!"

Paul ran to grab his phone.

After I finished throwing up, I stumbled back, and leaned against the wall, breathing shallowly.

I couldn't breath, and my head was hurting. My stomach was hurting. My heart was hurting. My chest was hurting. Everything was hurting.

I tried taking a deep breath, but it only made things worse. I felt like there was a wooly mammoth on my chest. Every time I took a deep breath, I felt pain in my chest. It became stronger and stronger.

I began to feel light headed.

I heard Paul talking to the hospital. My head hurt too much to make out the whole sentence but I heard some parts. "Hi.... my son....... he's throwing.......blood.......headache..... nausea...... difficulty breathing...."

I don't know, because the pain became too much for me to take, and I passed out.

The last thing I heard was my mom screaming.

***

I drifted in and out of consciousness. I heard people talking, but I couldn't quite place who it was.

I was aching all over. I soon fell asleep again.

***

When I woke up, the first thing I realized was that I was in a hospital room. I had an oxygen mask on to help me breath. No wonder I could breath much easier than before. My mom and Paul were sitting in a chair, beside my bed. They were quietly talking.

"Mom? Paul?" I croaked, but my throat was too dry to talk. It made a horrible coughing sound, which made them realize I was awake.

They immediately jumped up. "How are you feeling, honey?" my mom asked.

I thought about lying. Saying I was fine, but I knew, that my position right now said otherwise. "Like crap," I whispered.

"Oh honey," she said, wrapping me in a hug.

"What's happening?" I asked.

She gave me a sad smile. "You'll see."

And as if right on cue, the doctor walked in.

I knew her, she helped me a few times before.

She was a tall, slim lady, with her hair tied back into a bun. She was wearing a white uniform thingy and she looked at me and gave me a sad smile.

The only good thing about her, was that she was Will's mom. I liked Will. He was a nice guy. He worked in the nurses' some times.

I hated that they were all pitying me. "What's going on?" I asked.

"Percy, have you been feeling off lately? And please don't lie, it makes it difficult for me to help you," Dr. Solace said.

"Ummm," I glanced at my mom and she gave me a 'go on' look. "I've been having headaches and feeling dizzy."

"Is that all?" Dr. Solace asked.

I shook my head. "I've been having stomachaches and feeling nauseas too. I threw up a few times. I'm also having trouble breathing."

"Having trouble breathing?" she asked.

I nodded. "Yes, and every time I try to take a deep breath, I feel pain flaring through my chest. It becomes more painful every time I do it."

She frowned. "Okay. Anything else?"

"Um. Does loss of appetite count?" I asked.

"Yes. Anything else?"

I shook my head, no.

She frowned, looking at her notes.

"What's wrong, doctor?" Paul asked.

"I... think I know what's going on, but I need to take a few tests," she said, standing up. "Come with me."

She led us into a x-ray room where she told me to lie down and take off my shirt.

She took a bunch of tests and scans until she was finally finished.

She gave me a sad look. Great. I just love it when people give me pity looks.

"Well? What's wrong?" my mom asked.

"So... I did a couple scans and x-rays, and he..." the doctor started.

"He what?" Paul pressed.

"It's cancer."

Oh Styx. My life just became more messed up than it already was.
