(Y/n)'s POV

The afternoon beat down on our bodies, dragging us down with its steaming claws. I threw the bottle of water in the bin before speeding up the ramp to perform a quick grab, ignoring the beads of sweat coating my skin.

Miya followed with an air of his own, landing flawlessly as he slowed to a stop. The two of us had come out to skate by ourselves, having already made the plan beforehand.

Reki and Langa had their afternoon shift today and not feeling the mood to stick around, I had come out here. The sun was harsh, the wind had died and we were still skating in the heat like fools.

"Hey Miya, wanna go get something to eat?"
"I don't eat unnecessary fatty foods. I only need my proteins," he replied.
"Hmm, well, how are you supposed to grow up big and strong then?"
"Worry about yourself."

He came along anyway, causing a secretive smile to slip onto my face. The walk to the mall wasn't long. We were greeted with a blast of chilled air and the smell of sweet perfume, which I took in with a deep, refreshing breath.

Miya glanced at the cheeky smile on my face, donning a raised eyebrow as if he suspected I only came here for the air conditioning. The sweets cafe was only a few shops away, the new unique store having earned a favourable reputation despite its short running.

"Let's go. My dad asked me to check it out."
"Alright."

We were seated inside within seconds before the waitress brought a menu over. As we browsed the menu, a shadow loomed over us, irking both Miya and I. The two of us looked up to see a blonde-haired boy with striking gold eyes.

"(Y/n), I can't believe I found you here."
"Kyle?"
"(Y/n), do you know him?" Miya asked.
"Unfortunately."

Kyle took a seat beside us, surreptitiously sliding his arm around my waist. I immediately had a fork to his neck to which he chuckled and pushed away. His arm still rested upon my body, making me settle an irritated glare on him.

"Come on, hun. No need to be so stingy," he exclaimed.
"What the hell are you even doing here?"
"I'm on holidays. Thought it'd be a good idea to come see Luke's sister."
"I'm not in the mood for this. Leave us alone."
"Stop being such a party pooper. Ditch this kid and come have some fun with me."

I stuck an elbow into his stomach before moving it upwards to strike his jaw. He grabbed my arm but Miya smacked his skateboard against Kyle's hand. The two of us were running out of the store in not time at all.

My feet hit the skateboard as we slid away from the mall. My mind went blank. I simply followed Miya, too distraught to skate alongside him. Small rocks hindered our smooth riding yet I didn't mind the nuisance as it kept me occupied.

We kept skating before Miya slowed at a park. I took a seat at the bench next to him. A heavy sigh left my lips. Curiosity simmered underneath his skin and it was undoubtedly difficult to ignore.

"He was my brother's friend."
"Did they have a falling out?" Miya asked bluntly.
"They did, and I caused it. Kyle was interested in me but under normal circumstances, that shouldn't have posed a problem."
"Was Kyle too obsessive?"
"He was- he is still. He often did things that would make me uncomfortable just for his own pleasure...Luke didn't like it. He broke off their friendship, telling Kyle to stay away from me. We didn't see him much after that."
"...until now."

My gaze looked to the sky, wondering how long Kyle'd be staying here for. Hands suddenly covered my eyes, a voice whispered into my ear. A smile reached my mouth as I moved to turn around, facing a grinning Reki.

"Yo (Y/n)."
"Hey Reki-"
"(Y/n), that was mean. I only wanted to have some fun with ya."

Reki and Langa stared at Kyle, who continued to aim a casually teasing smirk my way. He stalked over, smacking away Reki's hands before moving to place his arm on the backrest behind me.

"Are you gonna move or do I have to do it for you?"
"Sweetheart, I spent ages searching for you," Kyle replied.
"(Y/n), what's going on? Who's that?" Reki asked.
"A slime that needs to be defeated," answered Miya.
"Do you need help getting him away?"
"I can manage on my own, but I may need help if he doesn't budge," I said.

I stood up and faced Kyle. He took the hand I offered him like a child happily reaching for candy. Once I had his hand in my grasp, I flipped him over and had his arms twisted behind his back.

"Kyle, do you want me to break your arm? Leave me alone."
"Come on, don't do this."
"What was that?"
"Ow ow!"
"Hey, why are you doing this to (Y/n)?" Langa asked.
"Because I like her. I've liked her for a long time."
"That's too bad."
"What'd did you just say?"
"(Y/n)'s my girlfriend."

Both Kyle and I stared at the blue-haired boy with shock. Langa took my arm and pulled me up, pushing me behind his body. Kyle seethed angrily, his eyes glaringly sharp.

A small dusting of pink coated my cheeks, as I struggled to comprehend the situation. Why was my heart pounding so fast? What he said was a lie, something to get Kyle off my back...it would never...

Langa's grip tightened on my arm, preventing me from moving forward as Kyle grabbed the front of his shirt. Both Reki and Miya glanced worriedly at each other, unsure of what their friend had in mind.

"Are you a skater?" asked Kyle.
"So what if I am?" replied Langa.
"I challenge you to a beef. I heard that there's something called S. Let's have it there. The winner gets to have (Y/n)."
"You're on."
"But I'll have you know...Luke and I, we were unbeatable back in Australia."
