"Liz Coughlan must be the most complicated person in East Highland. She's been around for as long as I remember, yet no one seems to know much about her.
All I know is that when she was ten years old, her mother had left her without a warning for some rich guy who lived on the other side of the country.

Her dad tried to raise both Liz and her little sister Lea on his own and made his money by working two jobs so that his daughters could have the perfect childhood. But not even six months after Liz' mom died, he fell into a deep depression and wasn't able to get out of bed and take care of his children anymore.
Liz tried to take care of her little sister, but shit got harder when her dad didn't go to either of his jobs, causing the family to run out of money and end up being poor.

It took him two years battling depression when he eventually lost and took his own life by overdosing on anti-depressants.
Liz was only twelve years old when she had found his lifeless body on the cold tiles of the bathroom floor.

That's when Liz and her eight year old sister moved to East Highland.
Her aunt, Marie Coughlan welcomed her two nieces into her home and raised them as her own.
The two girls got used to the new town pretty quickly and Lea managed to make a lot of friends after only a few weeks of going to her new school.

Liz never made any friends.
Not because no one liked her, she got a lot of attention on her first day at East Highland middle school. She just didn't want to.

She grew up having to take care of her family for two years, which made her feel some kind of responsibility. And even tough she didn't have to worry about that anymore, she couldn't seem to let it go.

Marie had told her niece multiple times to go and make some friends, but she always refused and ended up cooking dinner for the three of them instead.

When Liz was fourteen, her aunt send her to a therapist. She hoped that in some way, Liz would eventually let go of this unnecessary responsibility and live the life most kids her age did.
But she couldn't.

It's not like Liz didn't enjoy being around people, because she did. She liked going to parties, preferably as crowded as possible, so she could spent her night watching and analyzing everyone from the corner.
Most kids didn't even realize she was there, but that was her favorite part of it.

When she was sixteen, Liz was starting to get known in East Highland.
She was the girl who knew everything about everyone.

By analyzing and reading the kids in her grade for most of her time spent in this town, she found out secrets about people who didn't even know who she was.
She didn't do much with the information tho, she just saved it to herself for when she might need it to, you know, threaten somebody, blackmailing, you never know what people might do to keep their secrets a secret.

Like Nate Jacobs, god, she knows a LOT about Nate Jacobs.
She found out all about his dad when she once "accidentally" passed by his house while she was walking her aunt's dog.
Nate and his dad were arguing about some tapes in the front yard, hiding away so the rest of their family couldn't hear.

But Liz heard. And she now was the keeper of possibly the most private piece of information in town.
And since Nate Jacobs is a known asshole who clearly abused his girlfriend, Maddy, it was good knowing Liz was safe from his actions.

Liz is now eighteen and is living her best life.
She's a senior in high school and still spends her days happily overhearing other people's conversations.

She had gotten extremely close with both her aunt and her sister, and for her it was all she needed.
She did have a few "mutuals" who she wouldn't call "friends" if her life depended on it.
She liked talking and getting to know people, but as soon as they would ask about her, she'd turn away and end the conversation.
The only people who she would talk about herself to were her aunt, her sister and weirdly enough; Fezco.

Fezco is the local drugsdealer, he knew everyone and everyone knew him, which is exactly why Liz liked to talk to him.
As well as Liz, Fez too, was at every high school party.

The both of them were there for obvious different reasons, but still they always managed to find each other in the same spot; somewhere in the back where they could watch the party from a distance.
The two had immediately found an intriguing connection and could spent their entire night just talking to each other.

At first it was just at party's but before they were even aware of it, the two ran into each other a lot more.

And it all started at Chris McKay's party at the end of summer,,,,,,"
