Chapter 11 - Adorable Ace

Ava

I thought I would fall on my pretty face and ruin it, but thankfully, someone grabbed me by the waist from behind and pulled me back.

My eyes were shut closed from fear, but I opened them when I heard a familiar voice scold me, "How many times have I told you to pay attention to the two small steps of stairs I have when entering my bedroom?"

I stood up properly, distancing myself from him a little, and glanced down at the two small steps of stairs. Of course, I had to trip over it, like I always did. How silly!

"You know, I still hate this design. Who puts stairs inside the bedroom? That too, just two steps?" I always failed to keep it in mind.

"Yeah, you are the one who doesn't watch where you are going, and now, it's my design's fault," he deadpanned.

"I—wait a minute. Why are you here? I thought you had important work."

"Yes, but whose fault is it for being so ridiculously clumsy? I was about to start working when I remembered you would definitely trip over to this exact place," he explained to me.

I arched an eyebrow. "So you are here just to catch me?" I couldn't help but chuckle at this. "What about your work? Aren't you getting late then?" No way in hell would he delay his work just for me. He was a workaholic for God's sake.

"Yes, but on second thought, Grandpa will find it suspicious if he sees me working instead of being there for my newlywed wife." With that, he walked towards the right side of the room. He opened a drawer from the nightstand and took out a piece of paper.

Oh, he wasn't here just to catch me. He was here to make it all less suspicious for Grandpa. Now it sounded like something Ace Valentino would do.

"Here is the passcode to the bedroom where I shifted your luggage," he spoke up, and I walked towards him to take the paper, making sure not to trip over the stairs again.

"And where is that room?" I inquired while clicking a picture of the paper with my phone so that even if I lost that paper, I could still see the passcode.

"Next to my room," he informed me. "You can even stay there at night as long as you make sure to stay out of anyone's sight, though I highly doubt anyone will be walking around this part of the mansion that late."

But... I didn't want to stay alone. I was scared to sleep alone. Ace would always stay on a video call with me until I fell asleep. Surely, he had to know about this, right? Then why would he—

"But we don't have to worry about that, do we? You will stay in this room since you are scared to sleep alone, and I sure as hell don't want to stay in a video call with you from the next room," Ace added, and I internally sighed in relief.

He really always thought the best for me. Why were his actions so cute?

"Okay, so it's decided we will be staying in the same room," I said in satisfaction. "Now, I'll go freshen up, but wait, how? How can I freshen up without my clothes?"

He walked up to the dressing table nearby and started fixing his hair. "Just in case your luggage didn't reach on time, I bought some clothes for you as an alternative," he stated, avoiding my gaze.

I was amused by him. When did he do this? He was trying his best to make sure I was comfortable. That was so sweet of him.

"Thank you so much, Ace. You are being absolutely adorable," I couldn't help but let out.

He stopped fixing his hair and gaped at me in horror. "What did you just call me?" he asked.

"Ace?" I replied to him, now confused as to what shocked him.

He shook his head in denial. "After that."

"Adorable?" I let out, and when I realized why he was shocked, I burst into laughter. "I forgot how much you hate when someone calls you cute or adorable. But still, I couldn't help myself because your gestures are like that—cute and adorable."

Ace took a brief step toward me. "Never call me adorable."

"Okay, then you are cu—" I was interrupted by him.

"Not even cute. What the hell is wrong with you?"

I suppressed my smile and stood still. "I hope you brought nice clothes," I mumbled.

"My choice isn't like Simon. Who am I kidding? Simon has no choice, and I am nowhere close to him," he retorted as I made my way to the closet room. There were four huge closets inside, and a few clothes were put on hangers and displayed for me to notice easily.

I decided to check what was inside the closets. All of them were Ace's belongings. There was so much space for my clothes here, yet Ace wouldn't do that. But then again, what he was doing should be good enough.

"Speaking of Simon," I started speaking a little bit louder so that he could hear me from the closet room, "Did you release him yet?"

"Yes, I did a few minutes ago. I had to wait till we reached home," he replied.

I took a top made of cotton. It had white and brown stripes. I decided to wear linen brown sweatpants with it. Before I made my way to the bathroom, I asked, "He is alright, isn't he?" I had a feeling Ace did something to him, so I had to be sure.

"Well enough to not land up in the hospital." With that, he walked out of the room, leaving me alone.

My eyes grew wider in shock. Ace definitely made sure a few punches were thrown at Simon for betraying me. I couldn't argue with Ace about it because Simon did deserve that.

Without thinking about all these things, I decided to have a nice bath. But then, I realized the entire section was filled with male body products.

Great. I had to go out now and borrow some from Emma or dig out my own body products from one of the luggage.

But when I got out, I found some body products placed on the bed.

A smile formed on my lips. Ace must have brought them from Emma. He did so much stuff for me, yet he wouldn't agree he was adorable. For me, he was an adorable Ace Valentino.
