CHAPTER 30 - right person, wrong time

Knocks

"I'll get it," I said as I opened the door. "Miguel? "

"Hey. You left your basket at the farm. You weren't home yesterday, so I couldn't bring it to you. " he explained.

"Thank you," I said with a smile.

"I have to go now." "Hola Señora M/n," he said.

"I'll see you later!" I yelled as he walked away.

"Hmm. "Miguel, huh?" Mom said. Raising both of her eyebrows

"Ma?!?

"Just saying." She said.

I went outside and yeah I'm delivering pastries again

Then Camilo came up to me and said, "Hey."

I replied, "Hey."

He scratched the back of his head and said, "Uh..."

I saw Miguel at the farm, looking at us, and he gave me a thumbs up, as if he was saying that I should tell him.

"I just have one question," Camilo said, and I returned his stare.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Do you like...Miguel?"

"What? No.. I-I don't." I answered. "Why'd you ask?"

"Nothing, you two just.... hang out a lot." He said.

"Oh."

"Um, I still have to deliver these." I said.

"Okay, I also have to do chores too. I'll see you later." He replied.

"I'll see you around." I responded.

I was walking and thinking about what Camilo said.

"Pstt. Hey" Miguel whispered.

"What?" I whispered back.

"Did you tell him?"

"Tell him what?" I asked.

"That you like him." He answered.

"N-no."

CAMILO'S POV:

I couldn't stop thinking about what Gloria said. I mean, I don't believe what she said about y/n being a liar, but I do believe what she said about y/n liking Miguel....

I saw y/n again. Talking to Miguel. Did she lie? Did she lie about Miguel?

BACK TO Y/N'S POV:

I saw Gloria and I approached her.

"Hey," I said abruptly.

"Oh, it's you," she said, "I was just going to Camilo."

"I know what you said to him. How dare you call me a liar." I said, pointing my finger at her.

She walked away. I followed her.

"Hey," I said, "I'm not done talking to you."

She replied, "Well, I'm done."

I grabbed her wrist. "You are so selfish."

"Get off of m-," I accidentally hit her in the face with my knuckles.

"Oww."

I apologize; "I didn't mean to-"

She walked away, saying, "You're the one who's selfish."

"Gloria, wait-"

Gloria exclaimed, "Oh thank God you're here, Camilo." My eyes widened.

He asked, "W-what happened?"

"Y/n, she punched me."

"W-what I did not punch you." I said.

Camilo wasn't talking. "You're seriously going to believe her?" I angrily said.

"I'll bring you to tia Julieta." He said to Gloria.

I looked at Gloria. She was looking at me, smiling. How dare she.

I walked away. H-how? A disgusted look on my face.

I went home. It was lunch time.

"Mija. Where have you been? It's time for lunch." Mom said. "Are you okay?" She asked.

"Hmm? Yeah." I answered.

"Well sit. It's time to eat."

We all sat and ate. "Y/n. What's with the face?" dad asked. "Don't you like the food?"

"Uh no- I-I like it. I was just thinking." I smiled.

IN THE AFTERNOON (5:30 pm)

I went to the farm. In the open field and sat. The wind in my hair.

"It's windy out here." Someone said. It's Miguel.

"You almost gave me a heart attack." I said. He sat beside me.

"Why are you here?" He asked.

"I was gonna watch the sunset." I answered.

"Well it's a bit early."

"Yeah, I was waiting for it."

"Are you okay?" He asked.

Sigh. "Have you ever....fallen in love?"

"In love? Mhm."" He said "I fell in love with her personality, the way she talks, the way she looks at me, the way she tells jokes that aren't even funny."

I chuckled. "Who is she?"

"She loves someone else." He answered.

"Oh."

"You? Have you fallen in love?" He returned my question.

"I don't know. Maybe..." I answered. "You know what, we'll both find someone else. We're still young. Love is crazy." I said.

"Yeah. It is." He replied.

"The sunset is beautiful, isn't it?" He asked. Both staring at it.

I chuckled. "Yeah it is."

MIGUEL'S POV:

I was the ocean, she wanted the rivers. I was the moon, she wanted the stars.

Our story didn't end well but it is still the best one I know...
