I press the end of the cigarette into the glass ashtray, blowing one last puff of smoke into the air. Where the fuck is Nico? He's already over forty minutes late.

"He'll be here." Elio assures me as he leans back in the armchair, crossing one leg over the other and clasping his hands together, twirling his thumbs.

I haven't seen Nico for a few months now and even though getting him here was a last resort, I don't regret the decision. He's good at what he does and is a strong ally.

We haven't always seen eye to eye over the years, but the two of us work well together. People fear us when we're alone, but together, well.. that's a different story.

I sit impatiently, shaking my leg up and down as I chew on my fingernail. If anyone can help me find out exactly who was behind that hit at the gala, it's Nico. Just like any mafia leader, he has the same resources that I have, but somehow he always seems to be one step ahead of his enemy.

Soon enough, my phone goes off and I receive a message from Domenico, alerting me that Nico has just arrived.

I get up and approach the door, waiting for him to get here. "Calm down. You're acting like you have a rocket up your ass." Elio comments but I ignore him, too eager for Nico to knock on the door.

A minute or so passes before he does and I open it, noticing he's brought four of his men with him which doesn't surprise me at all. He probably has more outside the house too.

"Niccolò," I greet quietly, watching as he offers a simple nod in response.

"I was out of the country. I came here as soon as I could." He tells me and I roll my eyes, wanting to just get this over with.

My eyes catch sight of Lula as she approaches, her bright blue eyes full of curiosity. God she looks beautiful. She's so effortlessly attractive, she doesn't even have to try.

I wonder if she knows that? If she knows that she could have any of the men in this house if she just so much as asked? Not that I'd ever let that happen anyway.

"Who's this?" Nico asks with a suggestive tone to his voice which I really don't like.

She stops and looks up at him, her gaze slowly wandering towards me as she fiddles with the silk ribbon on her robe.

My eyes narrow as I look down at her. "No one." I mutter, annoyed at the fact she's here and in the same place as Nico. I don't want her to know him.

"Sei sempre stato un terribile bugiardo." He snickers.
[translation: you have always been a terrible liar]

I shoot him a glare, warning him to shut his mouth as I open the door further for him, allowing him to walk into the office.

His men also enter but I don't bother sparing Lula another glance as I close the door abruptly. I can't. I can't look at her because I can't fucking control myself around her.

Turning around, I close my eyes and mutter under my breath, annoyed at myself that I just practically closed the door in her face without so much as an explanation.
