It's been a few days since we got back from the lake house. It's also April now too, which means my sisters birthday is next month and I still have no idea what she wants to do for it.

The last couple of days have been tough on her. Having to adapt to being diagnosed with diabetes has been a struggle, that's for sure. So I want this birthday to be special and a time to celebrate leaving her teenage years behind her.

She deserves this. After everything she's been through, she really deserves this.

"Boss!" A voice calls and I look up to see Davide making his way towards me. "The trainer is here."

"Good, get the dogs and ask Matteo to help you." I instruct. Every few weeks or so, a trainer comes in to make sure the dogs are kept fit and healthy.

Davide nods and walks off through the house. I glance down at my phone, receiving a text from Lula informing me that she arrived at the spa. I sent her and Sofia out for a pamper day as such.

I wanted her to get out of the house and do something normal for once. Plus, it also forces Sofia out of her bedroom, which she seems to have locked herself away in over the past few days.

But mostly because Nico is due to visit in a few hours and I wanted to make sure that my girls were out of the house while he is here.

I consider Nico as a loyal ally and most of the time, a friend but I don't always trust his intentions, especially when it comes to the women in my family. Of course I know he'd never actually cause them harm, but he has a reputation and I don't want that interfering with me and my family.

Entering my office to collect a spare packet of cigarettes in my drawer, my eyes land on the picture of my parents. I stop and stare at the photograph, exhaling deeply as I eventually force myself to look away.

As I make my way to the kitchen to get something to eat, I spot Cora speaking to Anna and Hannes. All three stop their conversation and greet me as I enter the room.

"Can I get you something, boss?" Anna asks and I take a seat at the table, nodding my head.

"Some coffee." I tell her. "Could I get some bacon, eggs, beans and sausages too, Anna?" I add.

"Of course," she replies politely. "Toast too, boss?"

I look at her, poking the roof of my mouth with my tongue. "Mhm, why not." I agree.

A faint smile appears on her face as she nods and gets to work, Hannes assisting her. Cora approaches me and stands beside the table. "I've been in touch with Sebastian about Sofia's insulin injections." She explains and I raise my brows.

"And I assume everything is sorted?"

She nods her head. "Yes, boss. I'll make sure to keep on top of it for her."

"Thank you, Cora. I appreciate it." I tell her.

I glance out of the window, hearing the dogs barking as the trainer gets to work. Running a hand through my hair, I take my phone from my pocket when it pings to see a message from Nico letting me know he's just landed from Seattle.
