AS QUICKLY AS HE COULD, MIKE EXPLAINED THE EXAMPLE GIVEN TO THEM BY MR. CLARK.
"Okay, so, in this example, we're the acrobat. Will and Barbara, and that monster, they're this flea. And this is the Upside Down, where Will is hiding." The Wheeler boy walked them through it.
"Mr. Clark said the only way to get there is through a rip in time and space." Sam smoothly.
"A gate." Lucas elaborated.
"That we tracked to Hawkins Lab." The Blonde teen bounced off.
"With our compasses." Dustin confirmed. There was a beat of silence. "Okay, so the gate has a really strong electromagnetic field, and that can change the direction of a compass needle."
"Is this gate underground?" Jim piped in.
"Yes." El mumbled.
"Near a large water tank?" Hopper continued.
"Yes." El glanced to the ground.
"H-how'd you know all that?" The curly haired boy stammered.
"He's seen it." Mike concluded while he stared at the man.
"Is there any way that you could...that you could reach Will? That you could talk to him in this-" Joyce started, looking at the girl hopefully.
"The Upside Down." El stated.
"Down. Yeah." Joyce whispered. Eleven nodded.
"And my friend Barbara. Can you find her, too?" Nancy added eagerly.
Sitting in the kitchen, El studied a picture of Barb before closing her eyes. The radio was set in front of her, and static crackled loudly from it. The group stood around the table, waiting.
The lights in the house flickered and El opened her eyes.
"I'm sorry." She mumbled, her face downcast and her lips trembling.
"What? What's wrong? What happened?" Joyce grew anxious.
"I can't find them." El's voice cracked.
"Alright, it's okay." Sam rubbed her arm gently.

"Whenever she uses her power she gets weak. The more energy, the more tired she gets." Sam explained to the others while El washed up in the bathroom.
"Like, she flipped the van earlier." Lucas gave an example.
"It was awesome." Dustin smiled.
"But she's drained." Mike commented.
"Like a bad battery." The Henderson boy nodded.
"Well, how...how do we make her better?" Joyce stuttered.
"We don't. We just have to wait and try again." Mike informed with an unhelpful shrug.
"How long?" Nancy leaned forward expectantly.
"I don't know. However long it takes." Sam sighed.
"The bath." Eleven mumbled from behind them.
"What?" Joyce turned hopefully.
El sighed. "I can find them. In the bath."
"Clark. Call Mr. Clark." Sam snapped her fingers. They jumped into action.
"Mr. Clark? It's Dustin." The curly haired boy said into the phone after a few rings.
"Dustin? Is everything okay?" Clark's voice was faint and muffled.
"Yeah, yeah. I just...I-I have a science question."
"It's 10 o'clock on a Saturday. Why don't we pick this up-"
"Do you know anything about sensory deprivation tanks?" Sam grabbed the phone from her brother. "Specifically how to build one?"
"Sensory Deprivation? What...what is this for?"
Sam hesitated. "Fun..?"
"Okay, well, how about we talk about it Monday after school?"
Dustin snatched the phone back. "You always say we should never stop being curious. To always open any curiosity door we find."
"Dustin-"
"Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?"
Clark sighed. Sam turned to the group. "We got him."
