FINDING A SUB WAS PROBABLY THE FOURTH WORST THING IN DUSTIN'S LIFE. Numbers one, two, and three being the times they fought to save the world. The phone rang unnaturally long as Dustin waiting for Steve to answer.
"Family Video, this is Steve. How can I help you?" His false joyful voice crackled through the line.
"Steve, it's Dustin."
"Oh, hey Henderson. What do you want?"
"We need a sub for Hellfire tonight. Will you play?"
"Uh, yeah, no. I have a date tonight."
"Oh, come on. Just move your date this one time!" The curly haired boy protested.
"What to hang out with you and Eddie 'The Freak' Munson?" Steve scoffed. "Uh, yeah, I'll pass."
"You're just jealous cause I have another older male friend." Dustin tried ti convince.
"Ew, ugh. Whatever." The Harrington man cringed. "Besides, I mean, I really dig this girl. I mean, I think that she could...Who knows? Maybe she could be the one?"
"You already have 'the one'. It's Sam." Dustin reminded pointedly.
"Oh, I got some customers. Gotta call you back. Bye." The line disconnected.
"No, you can't call me back. I'm at - school." The curly haired boy slammed the phone back into the receiver, flipping it off as he left.

AS THE GYM FILLED, THE SUN FELL TO REVEAL A CLEAR NIGHT. Sam walked into the warm building with her hands stuffed in her pant pockets, keeping her eyes downcast unconsciously.  She was slipping through the crowd like water on rocks, she rammed into another persons shoulder.
"Oh, so-" The Henderson teen began her apology before cutting herself off. Jason looked down at her with harsh eyes.
Suddenly, he grabbed her bicep and tugged her out of the main gym, finding a relatively secluded corner, and slammed her back against the wall.
"What the fuck?" Sam shoved the blond boy away from her.
"That little stunt you pulled at the rally." Jason seethed. "You better not do something like that again, Henderson."
"Why don't you go deep throat a cactus, Carver?" Sam attempted to push by him, but Jason wasn't done yet.
Grabbing the front of her shirt, he yanked her back and towards his face, trying to intimidate her. "Listen, faggot." The blond hissed. "I will pummel your ass into the ground if you pull something like that tonight."
The Henderson girl stared daggers at him, not backing down from his threats. Before she could retort back, a hand slapped down on his shoulder and shoved him away from the blonde aggressively. Jason instantly let her shirt go and turned to whoever dared stand up to him.
Steve glared angrily at the basketball player, grabbing Sam's hand and pulling her behind him protectively.
"Hands to yourself, Carver." The Harrington teen warned with a quirk of his brow. Jason scoffed, shoving between the two and towards the gym doors. As his back was to her, Sam shoved him harshly for him to stumble. He ignored her, catching his footing and storming back into the crowded area.
As soon as the basketball captain was out of sight, a breath Sam didn't know she held escaped her lips.
"Are you okay? What was that about?" Steve immediately turned to his friend, grabbing her arms gently.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Sam ram a hand through her dyed blonde hair. "He was being a dick."
"Sam-" The brunette tried again.
"Uhm, Steve?" A high pitched voice came from behind them. Turning quickly, the Henderson girl locked eyes with a pretty girl with fluffy brown hair.
"Sorry. Uh, this is Sam." Steve introduced awkwardly. The blonde sent her a tight smile and a curt nod.
"Sammy!" Robin yelled, waving the girl over eagerly. Sam excused herself and rushed over.
"What's up?" The Henderson asked softly as she made it ahead of her friend.
"You looked like you needed help." The Buckley teen shrugged. "So, what was that about anyway?" She pulled the girl into motion into the loud gymnasium.
"Jason was being such an asshole. He told me not to make a scene like I did at the pep rally and that if I did he'd beat me up." Sam explained quietly. "Luckily Steve got him away from me before I dug myself into a deeper hole."
"And then you met the date." Robin finished for her. The blonde nodded with a sigh. "Why won't you just tell him, Sam?"
"Because, there's no way he'd like me." The Henderson scoffed. "All the girls he goes out with a brunette girly girls. In case you haven't noticed, that's not me."
"I'm sure he's in love with you, what's not to admire?" Robin winked teasingly. Sam rolled her eyes and laughed sarcastically.
"It won't happen, Rob."
"I don't know...He looked at you in a way he's never looked at those girls." The Buckley girl climbed over the bleacher seats to her spot next to Vickie, sending her friend a wink. The Henderson teen waved her off quickly, climbing up the steps to an open spot on the very back.  Unfortunately, by the time Steve and his date got inside, the only open seats were right in front of her. Tonight would be an eventful one, that was for sure.
