A/N: Been sick for a couple days so sorry for the long wait 😩
TW : Mentions of Miscarriage
My eyes opened and I already could tell something felt wrong.
Something wasn't in place.
I took a look at my surroundings and I was in a bed at St Mungo's but on a completely different floor to the last time I had been here. I was in a room full of women, some seemed to be pregnant. I started to panic as memories returned back to me of a flashing green light and blackness.
I shot up in the bed but quickly was sent back down by a sharp sting in my pelvic region. I looked toward Regulus who has just been sat with his head in his heads, shaking his knee up and down controllably. He looked at me through teary eyes and I immediately want to drop dead from the sight of how upset he was.
"W-what happened" I choked out as he took my hand in his, pressing it against his forehead as he choked back sobs of his own.
"She was a little girl" He cried out.
"What's going on, please tell me what is going on" I shouted as Euphemia ran towards the bed, closing the curtains and placing a silencing spell around us.
"Oh baby, she didn't make it" Euphemia pulled me into a hug as she tried to stifle a cry into my hair.
"Wh-who didn't?" I asked, already knowing the answer.
"Our baby" Regulus sobbed, pulling my hand from his forehead and missing at my knuckles with his tear covered hands.
I sucked in a deep breath and my face fell flat from shock. I turned to Regulus to look into his dull eyes that were flooding with tears as a few began to escape my own. My stomach felt a lot lighter than it had before and the pain I felt in my uterus was starting to become a constant reminder about what I had lost.
"Th-the good thing is you're still here, okay" Euphemia pulled back as she wiped tears from her face.
"What happened to her" I choked out, wondering how I could be so foolish not to save our baby.
"H-he... Barty used the killing curse on you. It... it took the baby's life instead of yours" She stuttered as she sniffled into a tissue.
I closed my eyes for a brief moment trying to process the information as my sheets started to floor with salty tears. Regulus was crying violently into my hand, unable to get a single word out.
"Do they have her?" I asked looking up toward my saddened adoptive mother.
She nodded towards me and I asked her to take me to her. Regulus followed, unable to let go of my hand as he cried into it. Euphemia had an arm around my waist to keep me balanced as my stomach ached in pain from the emptiness. She guided me out of the maternity wing and into a much smaller room that a tiny incubator sat in the middle of with a healer pulling many wires from it.
I let go of Euphemia and slowly walked towards the clear plastic whilst Regulus still had a tight grip onto my hand. I looked through to see a tiny foetus just bigger than my hand lying lifeless on a soft white blanket.
"She was six months along" The healer smiled sympathetically towards me.
Six months.
Just when things had started to take a turn for the better. Just when Regulus had came back after months of being missing. I started to loose all hope once again. Why couldn't I just be happy for once. Why was something always happening to me.
Regulus sucked back as many tears as he could and came to stand next to me looking down at the lifeless baby in front of us. The baby we were starting to plan our future around. The baby he wanted to have a party for even before it had been born.
