Everything would've been fine if Clarisse had just listened to her. Gods, why could she never listen? It was one simple order- don't move. But she did. And it was Percy who paid the price. Stupid and noble as always, he'd rather it be him than someone else. Especially if that someone was Warren. He'd pushed her out of the way, taken the big hit, even though it wasn't his to take.

And that's when she snapped. The fire, Percy's unconscious body, her selfish sister, it was all too much. For the first time since that day on Mount Tam, Warren was out of control. She could feel the blind rage building with all the force of a dying star, and it would bring everything down with her.

She wasn't sure exactly how it ended. All she could remember was one breath in, one breath out. The taste of blood.

And the last thing Warren saw was the color red.
