Grian swooped through the trees, ducking under vines and weaving through tight branches. He was flying through the jungle again, speeding around the giant trees and plants like a hawk. He grinned as his wild hair blew into his face. He banked upwards and flapped his bluejay wings, the sun bright on his face as he soared towards the sky. He stopped and hovered, looking out at the jungle that so many hermits called home. Sunlight sparkled off the crystal at Scar's beautiful magical village, catching Grian's attention. He smiled at the perfect village Scar had made; anything that Scar made was perfect.

He angled downwards and swooped towards the village, picking up speed as he drew closer to the ground. Something caught his eye on one of the tree houses, and he skittered to a stop in a flurry of feathers. He squinted at the thing that had caught his eye and smiled brightly when he realized what it was. It was Scar himself, sitting against the wall of one of his tree houses. Grian flapped towards him. Scar seemed very focused with what he was doing; he didn't seem to hear Grian's wingbeats as the shorter hermit flew towards him. Grian landed expertly behind Scar, smirking as he peeked around the corner. His smile dropped and his eyes widened in curiosity when he saw what Scar was doing. He's drawing! Grian squinted at what the wizard was sketching with his pencil. He blinked when he recognized the familiar fluffy blond hair and freckles. Is he drawing...me?

Grian blushed slightly, smiling. "Hey Scar!" he said, jumping around the corner. Scar inhaled sharply and then yelped, his green eyes wide as he turned to Grian. Grian laughed as the wizard sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "You scared me, gosh!" Scar exclaimed, laughing breathlessly. "How long were you back there for?" Grian teetered back casually on his heels as he replied. "Oh, not long." He pretended to just be spotting Scar's sketchbook. "Hey, are you drawing?" he asked, sitting down beside the wizard. Scar blushed, the feathers on his green-gold wings puffing up. "Oh, yeah, I draw sometimes when I'm bored," he said in a rush, a nervous smile on his face. "Just an old habit." Grian nodded. "What are you drawing?" he asked casually, and Scar instantly panicked, but then tried to cover it up. Grian nearly laughed at how flustered he looked. "Oh-I, uh-just-...a pesky bird...?" he stammered. Grian grinned knowingly; Scar had pretty much said that he'd drawn Grian, but if the shorter hermit hadn't seen the wizard drawing before, he wouldn't have figured that out. "Ah, cool! They are very cute," Grian said instead, leaning back against the wall with one leg stretched out. Scar nodded awkwardly, still seeming flustered.

Grian attempted to ease up Scar's nerves. "You have any drawings of Jellie in there?" he asked, knowing the answer before he'd even said anything. Scar instantly brightened. "Oh yeah, you bet I have a lot!" he said with a huge grin, and began flipping through his sketchbook.

Turned out, Scar was an amazing drawer. He drew all sorts of stuff, but mostly animals. Parrots, cats, pandas, striders, and even dragons were common things he drew. Grian had only ever seen the ender dragon, so seeing all of the other kinds of dragons that Scar drew was very interesting.

"You think I could try?" Grian asked. "You've got me inspired by your amazing drawings." Scar laughed shyly. "Thanks, and sure! I have an extra pencil here as well," he said, reaching beside him to pick up a sky-blue pencil. "Matches your eyes," he said softly as he handed it to Grian. The shorter hermit blushed as he took it, grinning. Scar turned his attention back to his sketchbook as he tore out a piece of paper, but Grian could see his freckled cheeks turning a rosy pink colour.

As soon as Scar handed Grian his page, the shorter hermit's pencil flew across the page as he drew exactly what he had in mind. His gentle strokes slowly formed into the shape of a face; a person with short, fluffy hair, sparkling eyes, and a floppy cowboy hat on his head. The rope-bridges swayed slightly in the wind as they sat there, the trees rustling soothingly above them. As he drew, he and Scar talked about all sorts of things. Their bases, the past event with the base swap and all of the shenanigans that they'd got up to in the last year on their seventh world. They eventually circled to talking about their last world, and the crazy things that had happened just over a year ago.

"It seems like we're always on opposite sides of things, huh?" Grian chuckled, sketching out a little pesky bird in the corner of his page. "Yeah, we really are," Scar said thoughtfully. "The Sahara versus Convex, the Jangler, the Area 77 incident, Mycelium Resistance versus H.E.P...goodness." Grian blinked; Scar almost sounded sad. "Huh," he said, biting his lip. "I guess we have different interests, eh?" Scar smiled slightly. "They say opposites attract," he said, his smile growing wider. Grian blushed and he smiled back, reaching his wing out to lightly brush Scar's.

He returned his attention back to his pesky bird sketch, but left his wing resting against Scar's.

They drew like that for who knows how long, just sitting there with the jungle thriving around them. Their wings stayed connected the whole time while they drew in comfortable silence. Eventually, that silence was shattered by Grian. "I'm finished mine," he said with a smile. Scar lifted his head, his eyes bright. "Can I see it?" he prompted, his voice laden with excitement. Grian smiled and handed his piece of paper to Scar, blushing slightly. Scar's eyes widened in surprise. "Did you - is that -...me?!" he exclaimed, looking up, his eyes sparkling with excitement. Grian nodded, chuckling. "Grian, this is amazing!" Scar said happily. "It's perfect! It looks exactly like me!" Grian leaned more into Scar's wing, partly to get a better look at the drawing, partly to be closer to Scar. "Of course, you're more handsome in real life," Grian said cheekily, and Scar blushed bright red. "You're one to talk about being handsome!" he declared, and Grian giggled.

There was a moment's silence before Grian spoke again. "I...saw what you drew earlier," Grian admitted, and he felt Scar tense up. "But I thought it was amazing! All your drawings are amazing." Scar lowered his eyes, smiling slightly. "Thanks," he said shyly. He looked back at Grian, uncertainty gleaming in his eyes. "But did you see what I put in the corner?" he asked softly. Grian shook his head slowly; he couldn't remember seeing anything in the corner. Scar looked away again, though Grian could see he was still blushing. "I put a heart," he said, barely a whisper. Grian cocked his head to the side, confused. "What does that- oh." Grian froze up as he realized, his heart beating extremely fast. A heart. For me. Scar likes me. Oh gosh...brain, don't fail me now!

He took a shaky deep breath, and chose his words carefully. "Does that mean...you like me?" he asked gently. Scar looked at him again, nodding. Grian smiled hugely, his eyes sparkling. His feathers puffed up in excitement. He'd been waiting to see if Scar loved him too since the end of the sixth world. "I'd be willing to make that heart a reality, if you'd like to," he offered, smiling and blushing. Scar's eyes widened until they were as big as Keralis', before he nodded vigorously, a grin spreading across his face like a sunrise. "Oh gosh- yes- I love you- can I kiss...you?" he said, his words spilling out like a jumbled mess of unorganized items from a chest. Grian laughed, and decided to answer by doing just that.

Their lips met, and there was no better feeling. Scar tasted like cinnamon and sugar, and Grian melted instantly. His heart felt like it was going to burst out of his chest at this point, but he didn't care. They broke apart after a moment, and Grian instantly missed the feeling of Scar's lips on his own. Scar was nearly as red as Grian's sweater, and Grian could imagine that he looked the same. "Who would've thought that a drawing could bring two people together," Scar murmured happily, leaning against Grian's shoulder. Grian grinned, wrapping a wing around the wizard. "Certainly not me. But I'm glad it did." Scar smiled at him, and Grian felt like he was floating.

"Me too."
